I doubt it would be better once the government controls it, or for that matter, controls what goes on or through it. Like China! Oh, you can say "well, I live in free country..." Bullshit. Governments change, and all they want is to exert power of you. Course, I am a civilized anarchist, so my POV is as such.

^my interwebsconnection is run by the city i live in, and it's fast 100x100Mb, cheap, around 20 euros/month. And the best part is that they won't store IP's so i can download all (the porn) i want without any risk.

Internet. Home of the Brave. Literal minded.

What I am pointing out is that in my tiny section of America (50 miles squared, approximately  ) there is a larger population than that of the entire nation of Finland; if America proposed what Finland did, it would be either impossible or take decades to implement.

we're having a crack at it, we'll see how it goes :p

massive country, surrounded by massive amounts of ocean... this can only end well.

Afaik the budget is $42 billion for FTTH for 98% of the population.

Probably because it's fucking expensive to provide the connection

Is it an American thing to say "oh" for zero?

Yes, but only in a longer string of numbers. Like, a phone number could be "two three six oh eight oh four". But you would never say "I have oh game tonight." If the only number you say is zero, you have to say zero.

Does that help?

Easy enough for a fairly wealthy country of six million people. To put that in perspective of where I live, 6 million would be the populations in Cook, DuPage and Kane Counties not including the residents of Chicago. If you did that, it would be around nine million!

Man, you Finn's have room to breathe!

They actually tried to do that in boston I believe. Didn't go too well.

NO IT DOESN'T!

but then again, I always used WMP before I got a mac and started encoding music to AAC so my opinion is useless. Meh meh mehitty meh meh, I just like the players that are based around the library view, unlike stupid winamp and its stupid afterthought library.

Goddammit, I heard this terrific blues song on NPR a few minutes ago about a Cadillac Coupe DeVille, and I need to find it somehow! :wall:

(It's to help get me inspired for an article that I've been putting me off for days.)

No, it was more traditional Chicago blues, and for what it's worth it was on 88.3 WAER at around 6:35pm. Too bad WAER doesn't keep a list of what they just played. <_<

Also, I don't listen to Neil Young on account that he is a douchebag. :dunno:

So... I am going for my green P's (provisional 2 licence) sometime in the next week. It is a computer based test where you face 15 scenarios behind the wheel on the screen and you tap the screen when there is a hazard, when you would stop, when you would turn, etc. Basically testing your hazard perceptions skills (hence the name hazard perception test ) and all my friends who have done it (and have done a lot less driving than me) say it was really easy and an insult to their intelligence. Naturally, I am shitting myself and putting off booking it. I really want to go though, because the restrictions on what you can and can't do are a lot less stringent:

a) can go 100 km/h instead of 90 (I consider speed restrictions more dangerous than lack of them for new drivers because other people nearly kill you when you are overtaken on freeways and that)
b) can use the phone handsfree whilst driving- can finally use the gps in my phone
c) more points overall, so you don't lose your licence for going 1km/h over the speed limit first time round (I don't speed, but I do make mistakes).
d) generally just more respect on the road, people don't see you as being as inexperienced as on your reds and they tend to be nicer to you (don't cut you off, let you into gaps more, etc)

GAAAAH damn nerves!!!!!!!!!! *drinks rescue remedy*

And yes, I was horrendous when I had to do my actual driving test, and worse whe I failed it the first time.

Aaaaaaaaaand..... I passed!!!!!!!!!!
have green plates on my car, can't wait until my dad and sister get home this arvo! (I may have neglected to tell anybody I was going- heck, I didn't even know whether I would be going this morning)
