Real drivers cars

First off the 205 GTI. VW may have invented the concept of GTI but Peugeot perfected it. It's just so good: Light, nimble, handles like a dream, good engine (really tuneable if you wanna go down that road), no driving aids what so ever. In my opinion one of the best FWD cars ever. If you're looking for a cheap, fun car that's a blast to drive you'd be foolish not to look the 205's way.

Ok so I might be slightly biased on this one :) Any road, any weather and this car just delivers. 4wd, lovely turbo engine and superb chassi which all benefited from Lancias WRC participation. All topped off with italian flair and looks to die for.

Those are the cars I've driven which I got the driver's car feeling from. Apart from them I can imagine that the Super 7, 911 RS/GT3 and 430 Scuderia are pretty amusing to drive to say the least.

DC2 Integra R. Probably the best fwd car ever made.

Porsche 944S2

I'm somewhat biased as I own one but it's one of the best handling cars I've ever driven on top of being very unique. Unfortunately I feel guilty driving it since it's in such good condition and low miles, but every time I do I love it more and more. Probably not quite as enjoyable as the Miata or 928 but definitely on my top 20 cars I've ever driven.

Offhand; most Mazda products tend to have a nice sporty flair to them that makes them more fun to drive than their competitors. The Honda/Acura Integra Type-R, and really all of the Honda Type-R vehicles are brilliant on a track, a backroad, or going to pick up a gallon of milk at the grocery store. The VW GTi's obviously deserve a notable mention. I'll think of more later...

Yet another unbiased answer: My Car, the Ford Fairmont ;).
It may look about like this ...

But it's a Fox Body with a 5.0, so aftermarket options are endless. I could rob the air-ride equipped running gear from a Lincoln Mark V-whatever or buy the bits to make this thing shame a BMW in the corners (unless there's bumps in the road, lolsolid-axle.) All I really want for the car is a five speed, good shocks and glasspacks. Then I'd drive it coast to coast if I could afford the gas.

As for it actually being a 'drivers car', there is a little to that beyond just aftermarket potential. The car has a fantastic rack and pinion, surprisingly quick and precise. The suspension is firm, and not overly compliant and with good sticky tires it would be plenty fun. Ford kept the creature comforts to a minimum in these, it seems, and the car only weighs 2,800lbs with little to distract the drivers attention. There are plenty of shortcomings in this chassis, but it's got some good points.

I DO just take my car for a drive in the middle of the night does that count? :p

Another completely unbiased one:

I love my parents'. It's quick, handles relatively decently for my driving skill, and won't let me down if I decide a Civic* needs to be put in place.

*Civic is only used as an example, people, as there are many of them around here see?

I just got back from a blast in the Mazdaspeed 6. My arms are tingling. Its just bloody BRILLIANT. The power, and the grip and everything. I know I sound like I'm parodying clarkson, but, its really that good. :burnrubber:

I don't get how they make a 3500 pound, nose heavy 4 door saloon feel so agile. Its witchcraft or something.

Ford Mondeo
"Even with the tiniest 1.8 engine (which I used to have) it still a blast in the corners. Only bigger complaint is about the pedals: lack feel"

and bits fall off, driving posistion is enough to give you a infefinate claim for disability if drove enough, equippment level is seriously lacking. Sorry but after having one of the affore mentioned cars for over 2 yrs had to have a rant about the god awful thing, glad to see the back of it. Drivers cars? huh?

Alright, Epic fail by me, lets see if I can redeem myself.

Classic RWD handling, no stupid electronic aids, and 70's style.. Unbeatable combination.

a beetle would be a drivers car if masochism were taken into account :p

(my boss has a beetle, I give him shit about it all the time lol)

Golf GTI for the win!
And my current (diesel) Astra isn't all that bad either, afterall it does have suspension by Lotus

Actually if you can forgive the GIANT blind spots, the Beetle is basically a TT in an ugly suit (same chassis) and it is not a bad car to thrash.

What I was after were drivers cars in general, from every class there is, that includes 2-seaters.
What I actually WASN'T after were exactly the types like Caterhams, Ariel Atoms, Nobles etc = pure track cars.

I can kind of see what you're getting at, but can I just point out that none of the 3 cars you mentioned are pure track cars. One is a novelty big boys toy, the other is a a kitcar roadster, and then there is the thoroughbred sportscar. All intended for road use, none as pure a track car as any Radical or Westfield XTR. Can you guess which is which from my descriptions above?

Okay, you got me there. They aren't exactly the purest of track cars, but I guess it's clear enough ;)

And let's see...Novelty big boys toy = Noble
Kitcar roadster = Caterham
Thoroughbred sportscar = Atom
