Alright.. I know Viper has heard me bitch on the IRC about this problem before and found out it was on my end, so now i am trying to find out again..

The problem is, it seems after a while i cant connect to the fourm on the new site. As in, if i ping it, or do a traceroute or anything it dies and when i try to view the site i get the IE error.
The thing is, if i restart my DSL connection (SBC) on my Linksys, eveything works.. Like right now. I tried coming to the site at first and i got nothing, and now after the restart it works.
So i am confused to see where the problem is.. Is it my router? Or my laptop? I have not checked to see if the problem is on other computers behind my router, but i am askign you guys if anyone else had this problem, if not, where should i start looking? I have a feeling its an DNS problem, but not at what level. Its just a little PITA to restart my connection to come here..

You can test the DNS theory, by using the IP address when it's not working.
Write down the IP address now, and then when you get a situation where it's not working, use the IP address instead of forum.finalgear.com.
If it works, it's a DNS problem, if it doesn't it's something else.
You could add a line in your hosts file as a workaround if it is a DNS problem.

Well.. Its not a DNS problem.
and its not a IE problem.
It just happen to me right now, tried the IP route and got nothing. Cant even ping the IP.
What you guys think it is? my ISP banning this IP? Maybe its getting lost in routing from the router to laptop? Ugg..

I've got the same problem on SBC DSL

I've got the same problem on SBC DSL

:x

My connection usual stops dead after the gphou-66-98-241-119.ev1.net [66.98.241.119] hop on a tracert. Just like Zuhaib said it isn't a DNS problem. I've wondered if it was some sort of spyware or hosthack but couldn't find anything that was out of place. Strange thing is, I can go to my friend's house with my laptop and it can connect to this site just fine. Then I go home and I can't connect which would rule out the spyware theory.

Can anyone help? :(

That is interesting, that "gphou-66-98-241-119.ev1.net [66.98.241.119]" is in my list as well (hop #15) as the last one before the final destination : "hosting.clstr-4.web-axis.net [67.15.104.187]".
What hop is the ev1.net for you?

That would suggest that the problem is either at ev1.net or web-axis.net.
It would seem likely that it's at web-axis.net.

The fact that it works for a while and then suddenly stops it peculiar.
Perhaps a firewall at the server is thinking its getting a DOS or something like that from your address?

for me:

"gphou-66-98-241-119.ev1.net [66.98.241.119]" is in my list as well (hop #17) as the last one before the final destination : "hosting.clstr-4.web-axis.net [67.15.104.187]".

Well guess which is the last hop i get before it dies on me?
Here is a traceroute i posted over at Dieslstation a while back.. At that timei thought i was crazy as i thought it was a problem on Vipers end, but a restart of the modem worked. Here is the trace

As for Gulf.. I did type in format C:.. But for some odd reason my shell prompt kept on saying invaild command.. You sure its right? :bangin:

^There has got to be "some" server involvement wouldn't you think?
I mean it gets to the last router before the server and then dies.
I would think that it is the server that is blocking you or something like that.

Restarting the modem might have an effect because you'd get a different IP (if you have a dynamic IP), and the server might not block you anymore.

I assume this is the dieselstation link?

Well, then, restart, insert Windows Boot Disk, type FDisk, press 3, then 1, then y, then type in whatever label, enter, and voila! Problem fixed.

Want me to point pulse here to this thread to see what he says?

yeah, it clear it seems its a server problem.
And yes i am also on a Dynamic IP (PPPoE) wiht SBC.

And yeah, it works everytime i restart my connection (and recive a new Ip), i know that. Now why would the server block my IP.. =? Maybe its a Anti-DOS system that does not like my IP after a while.. I dont know.

Yeah I suspect it's something along these lines.

Our upstream ISP (ev1.net) has automatic DoS attack detection and blocking. What exactly are you doing at the time the site stops working?

It probably works when you restart your router as you get a new IP address that isn't blocked by our upstream provider - it's nothing to do with the server itself (despite you being able to see the last router on a traceroute - it's blocked and detected at a switch level, and switches don't show up on a traceroute).

What's your IP address (ie one that's been blocked)? I'll check the DoS logs.

That I can provide. Sending it to you in IRC now pulse...

Well just look at the trace i posted, my IP at the time of that block was 67.16.99.254. What i was doing at that time? I cant recall, but i would assume basic Web.

Well it happen again (i am just using this as more of a log.. Maybe i am the only one or not).
