Rejoice, rejoice rejoice!

Piers Morgan is a punchable wanker.

I don't really care if Ms. Mensch's privilaged comments are right or wrong, Piers Morgan deserves a random punch from any passer-by, just for being a wanker.

One of the few times I am in agreement with Jeremy Clarkson, on this issue.

And speaking of Jeremy Clarkson with reference to the Murdoch debacle. It emerged on Tuesday that the Prime Minister David Cameron and Jeremy Clarkson AND Rebekah Brooks took a walk together on Christmas Day 2010, around Chipping Norton.

Taking a walk with friends or neighbours, with your dogs, is a common thing to do after Christmas turkey lunch.

Small snippets of news which get lost in a big news day.

Interesting though.

Thing is, mrs. Mensch did remind me of mrs. Thatcher being quizzed about some Argentinian ship.

I haven't read the book. So I don't know. But I'm sure someone will do it and write a story about it.

Halifax, at least, believed that the Prime Minister in a war government had to be from the Commons, not the Lords. It's telling that Alec Douglas-Home was the last Prime Minister with a seat in the Lords, but even more telling is that the last Prime Minister not from the Commons before him was Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, who was Prime Minister between 1895 and 1902..
Nope when he was the PM he had a seat in the commons. He was Lord Home (Pronounced Hume for some stupid reason) but not whilst PM.

Wiki says and I think it is correct, I remember the 1964 election:

"[h=2]Member of Parliament[/h]Douglas-Home became the Scottish Unionist Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Lanark in 1931. His high birth gave him a head start in Parliament, and he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Neville Chamberlain from 1937 to 1939, witnessing first-hand the latter's attempts to stave off World War II through negotiation with Adolf Hitler. Douglas-Home fell gravely ill with spinal tuberculosis in 1938, which kept him immobile on his back for two years and prevented him from taking an active part in World War II.
Home lost his parliamentary seat in the Conservatives' landslide defeat in the 1945 general election, but regained it in 1950. He was automatically disqualified from the Commons in 1951, and stepped down as MP, when he inherited his father's seat in the House of Lords, becoming the 14th Earl of Home.
Lord Home, as he then was, served not only as Commonwealth Secretary from 1955 during the time of the Suez Crisis but, from 1957, also as Leader of the House of Lords and Lord President of the Council (the latter twice; briefly in 1957 and subsequently from 1959). Home traded all three for the Foreign Office in 1960. In 1962, he was created a knight of the Order of the Thistle, the highest Scottish honour and in the personal gift of the Monarch, which entitled him to be styled "Sir" after later disclaiming his earldom."

The misquoting the book part may be true, but she seems to be saying she has proof of the other part of the argument.

Appears Coulson wasn't given high level security vetting but may have had access to some high level stuff he shouldn't have.

A memeber of he Met Authority has asked them do audit on police mobile data requests:

Anyway Lulzsec & co about to dump 4Gb of news international emails:
We're currently working with certain media outlets who have been granted exclusive access to some of the News of the World emails we have.

We'll see. Parliamentary privelige must be a bit confusing for some Americans. As you don't have as strong libel legislation.

Yeah, he will have seen some pretty big shit, even if he didn't know when and where the task force in Afghanistan would advance..

Sounds like a good idea.

Anyway Lulzsec & co about to dump 4Gb of news international emails:
That will be interesting. Or very boring.

erm

There is a certain hypocrisy in publishing any hacked emails
Not really. If the Guardian are given information, it's their right and to some extent duty to publish it. If they comissioned it, that would be something very different.

Edit: In cases of secret information, I remember Assange making quite a compelling legal argument that to be above board in Britain, you had to be intent on publishing information if you had secret information in your hands, to avoid legal trouble. And that meant you had to publish it. Funny.

If it was about anything else then i would agree with you, but they have spent the last 3 weeks pontificating about the use of hacking at News International and it just seems wrong to then run stories sourced from hacking.

On Tuesday last appearing before the HAC at the same time as the CMS Committee was interviewing the Murdochs, both the current Director of Public Prosecutions Kier Starmer and the former DPP Lord MacDonald.

I saw part of a replay of their testimonies this evening.
Very interesting viewing, which I recommend anyone to watch.

Not easy to summarise, but they outlined how and why the new investigations (Operations Elveden & Weeting) were started in 2011 and what the Lawyers actually told the cops in 2005/06, rather than what the cops thought the lawyers had told them to investigate.

This shed some light on the fact that the original investigation had such a small scope and didn't look into 3500 victims, but just a handfull.

Also, Lord MacDonald testified to the HAC, that in July 2010 he had told the whole of the main board of NewsCorp about the evidence for payments to Police officers found at the time of the 2005/06 investigation. Bribing foreign police officers is against US Federal law and believe that the FBI are looking into to this.

Not sure the Gurdian will get the NI emails as anonymouSabu an LulzSec are going apeshit about the poor Guardian Tech editor whose mobile number has just appeared on Lulzsec twitter feed!!!!!!

Amazing how many of the key players are active on twitter. Tonight the BBC's Robert Peston tweeted MP Tom Watson about the exNoW Sun journo that got canned. Watson tweeted back:
tom_watson
I'm sorry @Peston but you are being spoonfed stories. The Myler statement creates a crisis at NI. You have form. Stop being a patsy.

Peston was rightly pissed about that.

I disagree. They have pontificated about the use of hacking. Not the use of information given to a newspaper by a third party with no connection to the paper.

I don't really understand what he's writing. Then again, I don't read twitterish.

Bit of back story: BBC Robert Peston was at the big party before the whole hacking thing blew up big time. Peston is also mates with a few NI bigwigs:
Tom Watson, the Labour MP who has been an influential figure in exposing the extent of phone hacking at News International, was voicing similar concerns: "Robert Peston is being spoon-fed the internal NI document handed over to the Met in chunks. They're spinning their bad news. It's not right."
The award-winning Mr Peston is known for his extensive contacts book and among his close friends are two fellow north Londoners: Will Lewis, a former professional colleague and now the general manager at Rupert Murdoch's News International; and Simon Greenberg, who was picked by Mr Lewis to become the company's director of corporate affairs.

Another very serious line of inquiry is opening up:
BBC Newsnight reported- Three solicitors representing phone hacking victims were themselves NotW targets

It's the old story, first you fuck someone, then you fuck the people who represent them.

Sans lube.

Oh dear, seems that James Murdoch's claims of ignorance about the extent of the problem may be demonstrably untrue.

FBI are apparently firing up the investigative party van.

High-profile media lawyer Mark Stephens has revealed to Channel 4 News that police have confirmed he is among the 4,000 potential News of the World phone-hack victims.

On Thursday morning, I got a phone call from an ex-cop I know who now calls himself a security consultant. He'd just read the Guardian, and was not in a good mood. "That's half my salary down the tubes, then," he said. This ex-cop, like several others I know, specialises in illegal hacking and other "assignments" that often end up splashed across the tabloids.

The plot twists gets better and better:
A leading private investigations firm said it had strong reason to suspect that Will Lewis, a senior executive of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, was involved in "orchestrating" a leak of material from a competing news organization which helped Murdoch's business interests.

James Murdoch Claimed Three Sentence Long Law Firm Memo ?Cleared? News International
Re Clive Goodman

We have on your instructions reviewed the emails to which you have provided access from the accounts of:

Andy Coulson
Stuart Kuttner
Ian Edmondson
Clive Goodman
Neil Wallis
Jules Stenson

I can confirm that we did not find anything in those emails which appeared to us to be reasonable evidence that Clive Goodman?s illegal actions were known about and supported by both or either of Andy Coulson, the Editor, and Neil Wallis, the Deputy Editor, and/or that Ian Edmondson, the News Editor, and others were carrying out similar illegal procedures.

Please let me know if we can be of any further assistance.

More bother for Piersy

Has he taken any action against this piece?

?Moron, meanwhile, is enjoying the limelight as a celeb interviewer on cable TV. Former Mirror hacks have this week been reminiscing about the occasion when Moron serenaded their newsroom with the Beatles song ?And I Love Her? during a period of pre-wedding froideur between Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, and then informed them that ?It?s the message he sang to Heather to make it up ? you should hear the tape.? Worse, much worse, was the fact that this single document, later christened the "For Neville" email, was capable of wrecking all the previous NoW efforts to cover up its hacking scandal. In the end, this piece of evidence would not only cost Crone his own job, but also help destroy the entire newspaper for which he worked, the flagship of Rupert Murdoch's British fleet.
