Ren got a summer job (his first job acutally)

which will be a mix of 2 jobs:

1st, calling potential clients (hopefully it won't be too telemarketing-ish) to get information about their insurance contract renewal dates, and ask them if they'd like to talk to an insurance agent

2nd will be replacing the telephonist with the usual crap

I hope I'll have a nice computer!

I got it because of my english skills, cause they didn't want me for the job I had asked for at first (where english wasn't necessary)

I'll be working for a big company, Industrielle Alliance http://www.inalco.com

Over the years, Industrial Alliance has gone from a local insurance company to a financial institution of Canada-wide importance. Today, Industrial Alliance has over 1.5 million clients and is one of the 100 largest public companies in Canada.

27-35 hours/week @ 10$

not bad for a first job, and I'll be in the company already, so next summer when I have an internship to do, well.. it should be easy to find a place :p

I'll be paying attention to the company name next time "one of you" insurance people calls here.

They normally get the short version of "I don't know you, I didn't call you and I don't care what you are hoping to sell me so butt out of my life and let me carry on my normal activities in the quiet comfort of my home."

Congrats on the studies related first job Ren.

I've done this in 2001 for a french bank
It was "telemarketing-ish"
I had to ask the customers of this bank to know if they would like to have
a new credit card ( :? ) It was so boring :(

I prefer when the customers are calling from their own
because they have something to ask and are more friendly

by the way, good luck for this job

Yep, good luck.
And I think a boring job is not that bad, That way it makes you work more to get one that you like. And this one is just a summer job.
I wish I could get a job that payed like that. :)

Well usually those customers already have a good idea of the company, they're customers of the financial services division or they have an health insurance with the company, so it's not too bad.

And all I do is take data on their renewal date and propose the services of an agent, I'm not directly selling anything, the agent will. But well, at first I wasn't too happy getting this exact job (the one I was hoping for was 100% that) but afterall I think the part answering the phone might be fun and more relaxing hehe

:)

BTW, sometime ago, a thread about you buying a car was bumped, but I don't remember if you already bought one, still considering, or not...
What's up?

HIM!?!? Maybe one of those $100 plastic 12-volt cars that go 5mph...oh wait...those are for kids

I don't think he's planning on buying a car yet....and if I could give him any advice, I'd say to drive the mom's Cavalier as long as you can....believe me, it's worth it. I drove my dad's pickup until I HAD to buy a vehicle..the money I saved allowed me to buy the car I still drive - at the time, it costed me a crapload, but it was worth it. I still love my car

Remember this is Renesis we are talking about ;)

Good luck with your job, I did 2 similar jobs like this, calling people for intsurrance, and get cursed at every 1,5 minutes, and after that I went selling mortgages on the streets, I did it with a friend of mine and we had a big laugh because we had these inflatable kidbouncethings with it, don't know the names, you can jump on them and it was for the kids so the mums would come after their children and they'd walk straight in our trap

At the first hint of telemarketing *click* I normally don't even talk to them. If I do it's "thanks anyway, not interested" *click*

Congrats on the job though dude :) I hope it works out for the best!

Man, all those people cursing at you has to really wear you out after awhile

Yeah you get flamed at by people who don't have anything against YOU but to your collegues, but that won't stop them though, they think I will tell my collegues that he is not happy with it

I got used to it, don't take it really that serious, I hate it too when they call me, but hey I had to get some money so whatever I had to do was fine with me.

We also did pranks with friends, you could call free and we had this number which you can call and tell them your friends name and phonenumber and then pay like 1 euro and then a guy/girl from that company calls your friend about him touching his 16yo daughter and he's gonna beat him up, that they looked in his computer and found SO many porn that they had to confiscate it, and we could listen how he reacted.. That was so cool

That is so cruel.....yet hillarious at the same time  Speaking of pranks: I've been getting pranks from this relay service for deaf people or something. The caller types their messages in IM (msn or whatever) then the operator reads the message. You tell them what you want to say and they type it back. It was a survey asking me if I like little boys :D I think it was just my brother pranking me though....

UKD doesn't like it when people talk about themself in the 3rd person. ;)

Congrats on the job, and don't spend it all in one place. 8)

Hahaha, thanks!

but no I'm not planning to buy a car at all, it's no hurry.

And I'll prolly save up most of it, I'm very reasonable in my purchases, what I'll get is an iTrip mini for sure, that way I'll listen to my music when I go to work (should be able to borrow my mother's car most of the time  )

Congrats!
