You think the I6 of your Jeep is better?

It?s actually decently better yes IIRC.

Can you define decently please?

Its better, but I wouldn't call it decently.

Exactly.

Good point.

For what it?s worth, the GMT900 has insane resale here so not one is in my price range at least on CL.

Altoona is far as fuck.

Altoona isn't far, it's just awkward to get to because mountains.

Incidentally, we have E85 in spots around here. If you have a station along one of your routes, flex fuel may help you out a bit.

Is there a good reason why you need an suv btw?

Yes. I live in a building where parking involves driving down a narrow unpaved alley. This alley ices up with alarming regularity and when it snows is ?plowed? (read: a few inches of snow remain on the road afterward) last.

Also, one whole side of the alley is open to a steep embankment/cliff drop into a creek if you reverse out of your spot too far.

Finally, the lot itself is a gravel incline that doesn?t get plowed at all.

Others have 2wd cars and I might be able to get away with having decent tires unlike the Accord?s worn rubber bands.

So 4wd, while nice, isn?t required.

Were't you going to move?

And with that mileage he'll have at least 40k miles of fantastic driving before the gearbox offs itself.

Is this now Rick's list of oddities?

Looking at two Mazda 3's: http://tinyurl.com/ydfb2k3f

I'd demand that this 3 be detailed before sale if it's not already been conditioned: http://www.fitzmall.com/Inventory/Detail/JM1BK343271645598/USED-2007-Mazda-Mazda3

Those are the first gen ones, yes? IIRC, literally every US member who bought a first gen Mazda 3 had it shit itself.

Rick, you're back in the "I like shitty cars" rut again. Every one of your ideas except the XK8 (and that actually technically also qualifies due to pending engine and gearbox explodery) has been a bad, bad, bad choice.

The caliber was a joke, I wasn?t serious. Ditto the XK8.

It truly baffles me how people here treat every fucking thing I say as if it?s literal....

Anyway, since when does a sample set of two or three people here mean an entire car line is shit?

But fine, whatever. No mazdas.

General buying question: Would anyone here feel comfortable taking out a loan on a Craigslist car purchase? Or does it have to strictly be < 3k to be potential CL daily driver fodder.

Edit: any trouble spots with V8 AWD explorers? https://york.craigslist.org/cto/d/2003-ford-explorer-v8/6364252495.html

3k seems high for this: https://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/1999-jeep-cherokee-sport/6344984475.html

How much do front end repaints go for:

Are you serious about any of the above or are you 'joking' again? :?

One thing that happens to them is the lower cover part of the upper hatch cracks through. It's a bad design, but it's not critical. The 5R55 transmission tends to go at around 100K but costs about $2000 including labor to replace (worst case scenario) and will go for another 100K if you replace it. It can sometimes be repaired cheaper - valve body replacement has been one solution to some problems. (It appears nobody made a great 5 speed automatic, etc.) It's likely this one has had its transmission replaced - ask to be sure.

Uhhh.... From the ad:
THE CODE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR YEARS, BUT I BEEN JUST SHUTTING IT OFF BEFORE INSPECTION FOR IMMISONS

The code he lists is P0455 - the gas tank is venting to atmosphere. And he couldn't be bothered to fix it...

Run away. Run far, far away.

Mileage seems a bit high.

As for the front end... Can of Rustoleum, $8: http://www.instructables.com/id/Paint-Your-Car-With-Rustoleum/

Otherwise, about $500 or so. Possibly less.

Around here a hood respray can run as little as $150-200 for good work.

However, I'm wondering how rusty these two Jeeps are.

Gotcha! I?m really looking at late model CPO Cavaliers! *sarcasm* :p

No these are legit because they?re riffs on what people have suggested before (the Aviator)/what I currently have.

Yeah I know about the hatch crack thing. No biggie.

The trans is the big one - I?ll definitely ask about it.

Will run away. I was hesitant about it but figured I?d ask anyway. Thanks.

That?s definitely doable and I would go through with it right away because I?d never do it otherwise.

The blue Jeep only has around 150k according to the ad. What would you expect the mileage to be?

I?d have both pre purchase inspected along with poking around underneath myself now that I have a better idea of what terminal rust areas on these looks like.

AnalGear is always right.

I followed advice here before I got the mustang. Personally, I thought it was a boring choice because in my mind, a Mustang is the Toyota Camry equivalent of the sports car world. You know it?ll work every day. It?s not best or worst choice. Frankly, I?m bored with it now and want it gone. It?s also suspiciously consuming coolant at an extremely slow rate and I?m not inclined to find out the cause. Since it takes the overflow bottle to get low about 1 year.

But, I learned stick on it and somewhat understand rev matching gears. Only time I can rev match with nearly no jerkiness is when I?m focused on something else entirely.
