Ringmeet 2021 - Aw Balls - making a detour! (August 12th-16th)

Heads up to all foreigners: Germany has just moved to tighten the rules for entering the country, coming into effect August 1st.

Generally speaking, you need to be either fully vaccinated as per EU rules (last jab at least 14 days ago), have recovered from Covid in the past six months, or you need a quick-test result (no more than 48 hours old) or PCR test (no more than 72 hours old). Everything of course with proper documentation, so self-tests don't count.
Planes and other form of public transport will be checked, travel by car is not checked at the border, but police may stop and check you after entering (if they don't have anything better to do).

As far as I understood, everyone except @Redliner, @Adunaphel and @JVtje can stop reading now.

Additionally:

If you come from a high-risk or variant-of-concern country, there's a mandatory quarantine, unless you provide proof of vaccination or recovery using the official, surprisingly not totally useless website: https://einreiseanmeldung.de/ (choose your language at the top). Do that before entering the country.
If you are neither vaccinated nor recovered, it seems like the mandatory quarantine can only be shortened after five days by a test. If I read the rules right.

Edit: Children under 12 are exempt from these rules. Older children are not, but are also most likely not fully vaccinated yet... :EndEdit

More information from our government:

Official and lengthy information in German: https://www.bundesgesundheitsminist...d-verordnungen/guv-19-lp/coronaeinreisev.html
Perhaps someone else can verify that I understood the rules correctly?

Sounds good ... I think. The way it's phrased is really confusing :-?

@93Flareside yes - most simplified, the "flying in to Germany" rules have been expanded to all modes of transport. Not sure if the high-risk-country-test-quarantine-thing changed or was always that way. Vax'd is best.

Edit: The English phrasing here is much easier than the German phrasing on the official page: https://www.bundesgesundheitsministerium.de/coronavirus-infos-reisende/einreise-sms/entry-sms.html

I wouldn't expect anything else. Public Transport of any type = check documents. Like anything else, just another form to present.

Hey, now, Texas is trying its darnedest to change THAT around. (Big phew, though. Can we not screw this up before Chris and I leave?)

Sounds like all I need is my vaccine paperwork. NEAT.

As long as Texas doesn't breed new variants you'll be good with vaccination. Now make Joe allow the same for vax'd EU people entering the US.

:hmm:

i get my second shot 2 days before the flight, which means test at the airport i assume.

Why would anyone want to do THAT? I can't wait to get out, haha. (Then again, I've been stuck here seemingly forever.)

Simple, it's the place where coco is least likely to be during Ringmeet time...

Well, that sucks.
We are officially out.

Keep an eye on the news. Germany already downgraded Portugal from "Variant Country" to "High Risk" country.
If the infections/100.000 people stay 7 days below 200 it should be downgraded again and entry to Germany possible without quarantine.
As far as I see it, Portugal is at 153 now and below 200 since some days....
Then again, the official definition is something like "cases significantly above 100/100.000 or bad test rate or hospitals running out of capacity"

Yeah, that's a possibility. Would be quite on short notice though as everything these days. One can hope.

Also, @thomas - I just wired you some money.

I thank you for the input but I already put the plane tickets and rental car cancellations in motion.
In case the airlines go "Fuck off, no cancellation for you" AND Germany allows us to enter without quarantine, I might consider it again.

So, it's easier to leave than to come back. There's more that I want to say, but it's not Ringmeet-y.
