When Peugeot launched the original 406 Coupe back in 1997, observers reckoned that it was even more beautiful than the best coupe efforts from Ferrari. All these years later, it remains a stunning piece of work, elegant, feline and beautifully poised. Sadly, none of these things can be said of its 407 Coupe successor, which is bloated and heavy-handed by comparison. In its favour, though, the 407 Coupe does have masses of presence on the road, and it presents a far more masculine profile.

The 407 Coupe has more front and rear overhang than its saloon sibling, as well as a wider track. Its body sits a little lower, too.
On sale from January 2006, the latest Peugeot coupe is available with 2.2- and 3.0-litre petrol engines, as well as the superb 2.7-litre diesel V6 as used by Jaguar. It's a little more spacious than the 406 Coupe, and Peugeot claims that it is the most structurally rigid car that it has ever produced. Costing from ?21,900 to ?30,900, the Coupe will be offered in S, SE and GT trim.

The horror, THE HORROR of that front overhang :puke:

Damn shame, the 406 coupe was gorgeous, the 407 is replusive - I mean the grille arrives 10mins before the occupants do.

A picture I took of it at the Sydney Motorshow October:

I'm not too concerned with that overhang cos I guess it goes with the crazy styling of the car. I am concerned about if it'll last more than 3-years cos its French (stereotype I know..).

I agree with the review though, the predecessor was more stylish. This is just brash and loud.

What happened to the pictures of the 407 coupe in dark blue? Those looked great!

I can imagine what the chief designer at Peugeot said to his team when they began working on this project...

"Boys, we gotta beat Pininfarina... Let's add in all these bulges and angles we had lying on this corner... Oh, and a couple of air-vents. Don't know yet where to put them, but everybody loves air-vents..."
And the rest, as they say, is history :puke:

I thought the same as you when I saw the back of it too. I replaced the dark blue ones as they were LHD and the review is of an RHD. But you can see them in the gallery by clicking the link.

Am I the only one who liked it?

Don't worry Redliner, I sort of dig it too. :comfort:

It sure looks better than half of the American cars being produced today. (Not that it's saying much.) Though it looks like they moved the front wheels back just so they can cut the bumper up a bit with a knife. :bangin:

And just for the record, I think the Cougar looks nothing like the 407 (ok, a bit similar, but it's pushing it). The G35 Coupe, maybe. But not the Cougar.

agreed with blaro...that rear end screams G35 coupe. But I like it, although I'd like to see Clarkson test it to see how that overhang affects handling and weight balance...

Why Peugeot, why???

I saw one of these today - and I must say on the road it looks rather stunning. Perhaps even on par with the 406 Coupe

i kinda like how it looks though the overhang is a tad unsightly. i like how it looks from the back and the dials looks kinda cool.
