i just got back from rock werchter, a festival not far from where i live. last year it was voted (by the artists themselves) as best festival in the world. so this year's edition didn't reach the level of last year, but we still had a lot of fun.

some groups i saw:
- pink (gotta love her)
- korn (yakkki, that they dare calling this music, stupid dwarfs they are!)
- metallica (can't be bad)
- sugababes (learn how to sing live girls!!)
- the black eyed peas (really dissapointing, i expected a lot, but didn't get anything)
- WU-tang, WU-tang (they rocked!!)
- the pixies (i wasn't expecting a lot, but they were great!!)
- placebo (i realy didn't expect them to be this good live)
- cypress hill (superb!! and they were smoking a joint of like 40cm long and 10 cm wide , but i didn't get a hit  )
- muse (best show of the weekend)
- lenny kravitz (awesome! great show)

for the local guys, some groups americans won't know
- flip kowlier (seem him like 5 times, get better every time!)
- arsenal (they known outside of belgium?)
- franz ferdinand (i just love them)

it was fun, and we survived. 2 other guys are in the hospital caus their gastank exploded. and 1 dutch guy (from the netherlands) is in critical condition caus they slit his throat (he asked some guys the could be a little quiet, it was 3 in the morning, but they didn't feel like it and grabbed a knife)

the long wait till next year

I've been dying to see the Pixies for sooooooooooo long!

I have tickets to a festival they are playing in Seattle, but so far every single small-club show I've tried to get tickets too have sold out in less than 10 seconds.

They are undoubtably the single greatest band to ever exist!

^^don't agree.

when they came up, their first couple of songs realy sucked, they were like playing on automatic pilot, no sentiment what so ever. but as the show progressed, they got better, they started to enjoy themselves.

but i realy don't think they're that good, "where is my mind" is one hell of a track, but their other songs aren't that great at all imo.

the best groups for me are the doors, and wright now the white stripes, they totally rule. (and are coming to belgium the end of august :p)

Oooooh, dissing the Pixies, eh! Time for the gloves to come off! :p

Just kidding, but if the Pixies live performance didn't seem all that great, it is probably due to them being broken up for the last 12 years. They haven't played together in that long, so I wouldn't doubt it if things seemed a bit rigid.

As for them being a good or bad band, you really have to understand the vital influence they've had on musical history. They were only together for 5 years and only made 5 records. However, their early records like Surfer Rosa and Doolittle completley changed everything in alternative music. There would have been no Nirvana, no grunge, no Brit pop, and maybe even no current alternative music if it weren't for them (Kurt Cobain said on numerous occassions all he was trying to do was write music as good as the Pixies). They also basically invented the quite\loud compositional dynamic you hear in most popular alternative music.

Anyways, excuse the rant, but people sometimes talk about bands they feel some sort of a connection with or almost an "owernship" of... well, the Pixies are that for me.
