Rotaries

I, too, recall an alternative use of the rotary, a primary draw being its reliability for use in homebuilt aircraft
 
I believe some of the drones used by the military are wankel powered.

Speaking of, my 'replace engine now' light just came on, figuratively speaking. I think I lost a side seal. She ran hard for 6 years, so I can't complain. Time to find an S5 block.

Well, since the thread has been dug up.. This came up on gear.fi few days ago.

VAZ-21018 (1978) ? first series rotary engine modification for Soviet police & KGB with single-section Wankel engine VAZ-311 (80HP). Presented to the public by 1982.
VAZ-21019 "Arkan" (1983?) ? second series rotary engine modification for Soviet police & KGB with two-section Wankel engine VAZ-411 (120HP).

I've seen that car in the flesh. Photos don't do it justice...
 
Both the FC and the FD are such good designs. In my eyes, they aged very VERY well and I would love to own any of those two.
 
My FC's seats were absolutely wonderful, but I still think I'd rather an FB/FD for outward aesthetics.
