This is not to say every car has this problem, but it’s why pre-purchase inspections by an independent shop are really important to avoid getting a junk box. You may have noticed my posting here has gone down, that’s not for lack of interest.

I was visiting my parents house last weekend and came across this prime example of rusty shitbox:

The owner has even realized it:

I didn't get as many photos of rusty crap as I thought while in the UP, mostly because I spent most of the time on bike trails or a beach. Luckily, there's not too many cars in these places. There was a Subaru wagon that I could see door hinges from the outside, but it was never there when I was ready to take a photo. So here's the last of what I got.

Obviously not the most extreme example, but that lower tailgate has me wanting a tetanus shot. Of course the rockers, arches and door bottoms are gone too.

I'm actually not sure what's going on here. Both sides were like this. There was no other outward visual cues of rust. So... no idea.

Here's something I noticed that I wasn't sure how to explain it. I noticed many vehicles, like the above van, where the rust was seemingly working under the paint. Then, when the rust was bad enough, the paint would peel off easily.

Hey guys, do you remember when a certain Pennsylvanian FinalGearer jettisoned a Cherokee that would no longer pass inspection to another FinalGearer with a readymade loophole?

... The situation hasn't gotten better.

These cars with whole missing sills are insane...

My cars have been rusty, but usually out of sight, beyond the reach of the MOT tester's plastic hammer but there have been exceptions...

This actually looks pretty good, until you see the frilly door bottoms and fist sized hole in the front of the sill. Still FIT though...

This van lived on my street for a while. You can actually see the yellow chalk the MOT testers use to mark rust. It would appear they just circled the whole underside of the thing...

The longevity of most cars and the fact that they tend to be killed off by mechanical failure/simply being old in an age of cheap finance deals means it's quite rare I see actively rusty cars outside of mid 2000s vans and Mazdas...

I'd like to see one of these hit with a cleaning laser, just to see what would remain afterwards. Sandblasting has too much potential to remove weak metal that's still good, laser doesn't

I see many videos coming from this collaboration, including a trip to the junkyard.

It does not help that it is rather more difficult to get older, more inexpensive cars without looking out of state because a majority of them get scrapped before they reached the rust level presented here.

I wish! Narran are such teases with their videos. Sadly even the cheap models are silly amounts of money, they were just 'unwise purchase' amounts of money I could probably justify it.
