Saab has launched a diesel-engined 9-3 Convertible at the Brussels Motor Show this week.

It comes with the latest GM 1.9-litre engine, giving 150bhp, as in the 9-3 saloon and SportWagon. In the soft-top, this gives acceleration 0-60mph in 10 seconds (six-speed manual version) or in 11.2 seconds with the optional six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is 44.8mpg for manual models and 38.2mpg for the autos, with carbon dioxide output 169g/km and 199g/km respectively; a particulate filter is standard-fit.

The 9-3 Convertible 1.9 TiD comes in Linear or Vector specifications, with prices starting from ?25,370 (Linear) and ?27,664 (Vector). The limited-edition, higher-specification metallic blue Vector Cerulean models are from ?28,439.

Saab expects 20% of all 9-3 Convertible sales this year to be diesels.
