Shell V-POWER 100 out tomorrow

Ferrari and Shell have both produced the new Octane 100 V-Power...It's coming out tomorrow, even though its been out in Germany for a while...cant wait to fill up my tank with it..Do u guys think it'll really make a difference in accel/power of a car?

Yeah where is it coming out, I don't think it will make a difference unless your already takes Premium (In America).
 
Stupid people put high octane fuel in a car that needs 87... and make it worse for the engine

Exactly - higher octane does not equal better performance.
 
That is available here for quite some time, and in some cars it will possibilitate more power. I don't remember if it was in a Peugeot 106 XSi or GTi or a Punto HGT, but it provided more 4 or 5 bhp. Tested in a rolling dyno, after emptying and refuelling the car with regular 98 and V-Power. It is also publicited to be cleaner and easier on the injectors and other internals, so if you consider all that benefits, more .04?/l or .05?/l wouldn't be that expensive. A new ECU or a new direct admission air filter cost way more. It is, however, more .10?/l, so it's just too expensive.
 
If its anything like shell optimax here, it would stop my car from dieseling when I turn it off after a hard stint of driving :thumbsup: Other than that, its a waste of money on cars that run on 91 RON petrol.

It's so strange that we only have 95, 98 and those 100 specials...
 
with knock sensors and EFI, your car can adapt to almost any octane...assuming you go up, and not down
 
in what way is higher octane bad for your car? i mean you won't get much in the way of performance gains by switching form 93 to 100 but i don't see how it will do bad things to your engine.. i run the highest octane i can get in the GTX keeps evil detonation away at high boost

So that's just shell optimax then isn't it? It'll have very little benefit on your average car. There are more effective ways to better accerleration - decent tyres and taking any dead bodies out of the boot (or trunk for the yanks) spring to mind.

Assuming your car has knock sensors and efi.

any modern japanese or european car will have them. all of my cars...except the RX-7 have them.
 
They way I understand it, the higher the octane number the more pressure and heat can the fuel take before it spontaniously combusts, so higher octane would only make sense if you were to increase your compression ration.

Exactly. Which is why a dumbestic that normally runs on 87 won't run too well at 100. My car, which needs 91 or higher, would be OK, because I run decently high compression (for stock engine, anyway)
 
You could just use water injection like rally cars did (or still do?). It effectively does the same thing to a certain degree as high octane gas, and it cleans too. If abused, it will just make the engine stall. ;)
