The seconf series of the BBC's brilliant series Sherlock will be premiering on new year's day and four trailers from the second and third episodes ("The Hounds of Baskerville" and "The Reichenbach Fall") have been released.

I bought the DVD and I have been soooo waiting for the next set of stories.

The actor playing Moriarty is bloody scarey!

Simply brilliant. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss strike gold again.
high quality, great storyline and well acted. I loved every single minute of the Second Series opener. Continuously kept me guessing and full of twists and turns. already looking forward to next weeks episode which is an adaptation of Hound of the Baskervilles and features Being Human's Russell Tovey.

This. This is what I love about Moffat - you're never quite sure if everything is as it seems, or if there's some twist lurking in the wings waiting to be uncovered.

It doesn't have to be a choice you know. It is possible to make full length seasons to a consistently high standard.

Don't believe me? Go and watch The West Wing.
The West Wing is the rare exception.
It's also worth remembering that BBC shows don't have anything near the same budget as American shows. Most comedies last 6 episode and the standard series run is 13 episodes.
Also don't forget that Moffat is the show runner of both Doctor Who. the guy can only do so much and I'd prefer he did his best than try to churn out episodes to merely make a point.
Also Martin Freeman has been a bit busy filming the Hobbies movies.

I'm just saying that Sherlock is a rare example of brilliant tv making and it doesn't require a big episode count and big Hollywood budget.

Considering how successful some of these shows have been globally, I don't see why why they can't spend a bit more money on them.

Just watched the new episode and it was astonishingly good! It's the sort of show that really sucks you in until the ending. Brilliant all 'round and I hope to be seeing more of it! This is really a good example of quality over quantity (though 90 minutes x 3 episodes is still brilliant).

What a show! Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! You do not get many action/dramas like this one, writing, direction, acting and filmatography. Even the special effects were in keeping with the show and yet impressive. Love the mobile phone bits. Looking forward to next week.

This has Cobol74's - full on recommendation.:)

Unfortunately the brilliance of Aaron Sorkin doesn't influence the rest of network American TV as much as we'd like. Every West Wing is offset by countless garbage shows and say...brilliant comedies like Arrested Development or Community lose their flame far too early...or go on too long and jump their shark like The Office

It was a simply marvelous episode. Also I can't really complain about the length, you're essentially getting 3 feature-length films with a complex storyline, well-developed characters and a plot that sucks you in. Not to mention scenery porn.

:roflmao:

I happen to have read some of the Sherlock Holmes stories over the holiday, and I have to say, I love the fact that the series is using them as anchor points and including parts of them in the episodes, but not sticking to the original story. "Study in Pink" for example took some lovely motifs from "Study in Scarlet".

Gah, I'm in love with this show. I only started watching it yesterday due to some hesitation, and I can't imagine why I'd do that. It's so brilliant. And I have to say, Mr. Cumberbatch is quite charming.
