So after reading numerous discussion threads about Top Gear going downhill, I decided to do some stats crunching of my own.

Using the polls from this very forum (from Season 11 onwards, as the previous episodes didn't have polls), I constructed a few graphs with the feedback ratings.

The numbers speak for themselves. Please note that 14x06's votes are still subject to change.

The first chart shows the review score percentages per episode. This is the most accurate graph as it accounts for the large variations in reviewer turnout.

The second chart shows the number of review score votes per episode. With this graph you can see the number of people who voted and therefore infer a rough approximation of FinalGear viewership numbers.

The third chart shows the average scores for each season, as averaged from the review score percentages for the first graph.

It seems like the overall fan opinion of top gear has gone down since Season 11, with some exceptions (notably, season starters, season finales, and specials). Season 14 is the worst performer of the 4, with the lowest ratio of favorable reviews (scores of 8 and up), as shown in the third chart. It is also the season with two episodes with ratings of 1 in the double digits (of voters).

Here's the XLS file (for maximum compatibility) with the numbers, feel free to peruse it:

This is what happens when I'm bored.

I suspect that of all the current posts on this subject, this is the one Andy Wilman will be most likely to take notice of. Good effort!

You could add the final four episodes of series 10 as well, they have polls already.

It is interesting to note the drop off in positive scores between 14x04 and 14x05 coincides with the change in the "rep" system. I think Viper and Quicky have created a far more honest (and representative) forum.

I was going to do that, but I decided against it because that wouldn't work for season averages.

Yeah, but the two large tables could accommodate them... don't have any office so I can't fix it up myself

I've updated the tables with data from season 10 polls, but the first poll (which was on a 5 point scale) had to be multiplied by 2 (10 and 9 are 5, etc)

damn good work and have some deserving +rep for your effort.
like another poster said it is interesting to note that there is a sharp decline in 14x04 and 14x05 which do seem to be the tipping point in many people's opinions about Season 14. Although i have enjoyed Season 14 so far, i would say that 14x05 did feel a like a large drop in quality and content. i don't know if this is because of the new rep system either but it does show that whatever way, the forums opinion on recent episodes does seem to be the same.
This is a great example of showing what the community opinion is of Top Gear so far.

Nice job. But I don't understand the 3rd one to be honest. Yah.. I understand your description, but I do not understand what it shows me (the message).

I'll try something different... *thinkin'*

How about that:

It's much easier to interpret imo.

PS: Out of curiosity

The third chart shows the average percentages per score per season. Say Season 14's episodes have 20% of the poll responses are 7. This percent is displayed on the graph.

I do like your ideas though.

Having 7/10 as the minimum on the ordinate is a bit misleading, imo -- makes what the drop of 0.5 average rating points (or 0.8 average rating points, excluding S14E06) look like >40% drop in rating from S13 to S14.

I think this has more to do with the Car Art Show being the second worst film in TG history, only topped by Geoff.

You're right. If you start at 0 you won't hardly see any change at all. This is a more 'relative' view (in the post above) :p

This is absolute:
