These are the FIRST ever shots (and will likely remain the only ones...) of the future Audi R8, the showcar of which was called the "Le Mans". It'll be Audi's answer to the Mercedes SLR and be based on the Lamborghini Gallardo. Customers will have the choice between a V8 engine featuring around 400 bhp and a bi-turbo V10 with an output close to 600 bhp and a top-speed of 345 km/h. The car's official debut will be in around one year's time. Our pictures were taken at Volkswagen's secret test-base in the north of Sweden.

I like it :) Unlike Mercedes with the SLR, Audi have actually bothered to make it look like a SUPERcar. That interior is also VERY sporty, I love it! It'll be like the SLR because it can be a GT cruiser if you want it too but I'm not so sure if it'll go 'round the track as fast.

Nice car, but please Audi, ditch the AWD differential!!
 
the lambo wheels are probably only fitted for the prototype. Audi is probably calling on Lambo's expertise to make sure they get their first supercar right. doesn't look like they've changed it from the concept really.
 
If it going against the SLR shouldnt they had based it on the Murcielago?

I don't know if its just me but I'm not ready for that type of automotive design yet. For now atleast, I want to see the wheels on my car.

Yeah I think so but even that wasn't that good-a supercar. Tiff Needle didn't like it. JC overall didn't really like it.
But is anyone with my first post? - Ditch the stupid AWD. That will ruin this otherwise good car.

The Le Mans concept car looks really sweet, so I hope the stick pretty much to that. Seems like a nice car on the spy-shots..
 
Anyone know if Audi's race cars today are AWD or RWD?

AWD can be used in some sports cars well, I guess. The Skyline seems to have it, and people love it anyways.

The Le Mans Race cars (R8/R10), is Mid Engine, RWD. The DTM cars are rear wheel drive too, I think they're front engined..

Yes, DTM cars are front-engined.
 
See now those look like real spy shots, like a real spy took them. All the other "Spy shots" are like from the middle of a busy highway, or on a wide open public track.

the GTRs are the only skylines with AWD, the majority of skylines are RWD. Also the Atessa system is primarily RWD untill a certain amount of slip, then it starts working as AWD.
