it looks brilliant. i like how Audi is taking full advantage of the gallardo-derived V10

That front overhang is disgusting!

Audi always had the Strait of Gibraltar over the front wheels, but this takes the cake.
they say its mid engined.. but you can se from the overhang its just like all other audis .. it has the engine infront of the car

Not sure if I like the back end.

Otherwise, it looks terrific. Aggressive and sleek. (Even if the shape is like...a headcrab from Half-Life 2.)

It's mid-engined.

The DTM cars are rear wheel drive too, I think they're front engined..
The DTMs are much like NASCAR in the States meaning they have nothing to do with their production cousins. DTM drivers sit in what would be considered the back seat of a production car, because of the engine layout and driver seat position. All Audis have their engines infront of the front axle, the Audi A4 DTM engine is well past the front axle, making the race car a front/mid mounted engine.

i found im monthy Spanish Motortrend some new info about the R8

The best of all the news is that the R8 will have the same price tag as a Porsche 911

Start saving everyone!

they said similar things about the ford GT. under $100k and then alittle over that mark. lets just hope Audi doesnt play that game :p

It's not only an Audi problem. All front-wheel drive cars have the engine in front of the wheels, and if, like Audi, they use longitudinally mounted engines, they will reach even further front (sp?). But no one takes the crown from Peugeot.

The Gallardo also has a long overhang. And the Murcielago even has a button to raise the front.

(Yes, I know, I have been missing, but I will explain it later, in another post, when I've had some reading.)

no kost have the engine over the front wheels .. audi still has it infront!
but your right .. the front overhnag on new Peugeot`s are CRAZY!
but the king is still a forgoten japanese car fom the 80s..

Mid-engined or not, that doesn't excuse the 3,000 acres of bodywork in front of the wheels.

If the engine's in the middle, then what are they putting there? Used diapers? A flux capacitor? In-laws?

You obviously don't know wtf you are talking about thinking this is anything other than a mid-engine car.

Its called a "crumble zone." Also it is what is needed to adhere to the EU pedestrian safety laws. What would you want and overhand like a VW Vanagon. By the way, this doesn't mean that there is much weight in front of the front axle.

Lets think before we type, also the angle of the shot exposes the nose more than. Compared to other current Mid-engine cars it seems all relative to me. Even the GT seems to have a simular overhang, which by the way doesn't adhere to the EU Pedestrian Safety Laws.

that only means that the truck will be biger if the front is longer. and wtf is the problem with that? its not like the engine is there or anything. who cares if the front of the car isnt right against the wheels. its only more protection if you crash it into a wall at 130 mph

Chill out, I never said it was mid-engined or not (ok, it is, so there). And I just thought it looked bigger than most of the cars you've pointlessly posted there. In my eyes, it just doesn't look that balanced.

And yes, I know wtf a crumple zone is.

First; I never asked if you what is was. Second; If you do know what one is then why this...

Well...they go hand in hand

Third; Now you are back tracking, your "Strait of Gibraltar over the front wheels" comment is valid for front engine Audis, but you jump to false conclusions on this one, then you say it doesn't "look balanced to me" you are entitled to you opinion. But sounds similar to your no air-jacks in racing comment.

That was a joke. :wall: Please, stop scrutinizing everything I post.

I don't see what that has to do with this, but whatever makes you feel better, I suppose.

The R8 will debut on September 30th in Paris. I rekon it looks awesome. The big question remains, how much bhp will it pack?

That car started looking worse and worse as I went through this thread.

Sigh

The first pictures (renders?) looked awesome

confirmation of awesomeness. It'll most likely have a V8 to begin with (RS4's possibly?) and then when the Gallardo gets an updated V10, the Audi will get the older one.
id say expect atleast 400hp for starters.
