Here is the first solid evidence that BMW has given the green light to what will potentially be the fastest estate car on the planet. That distinctive nose and those M5 alloys would have raised our suspicions, but it is the menacing quad exhaust pipes that mark this BMW Touring out as an ?M-car?, the ultimate in performance BMWs. It?s a welcome but hardly surprising development, as BMW would have been unlikely to sit still whilst Audi and Mercedes Benz dominated the super-estate market with their 444bhp RS6 Quattro Avant and 476bhp E55 AMG estate. As towering as those V8 powerhouses are, BMW brings no less than 507bhp to the game, courtesy of the sensational V10 powerplant that already resides under the bonnet of the M5 saloon, a car that goes on sale here in a couple of month?s time.

A BMW GB spokesman has told 4Car that no decision has been taken on production of an M5 Touring, but coyly added that if such a car were to go into left-hand drive production ?we would be asking for a right-hand drive version. After all, more Touring M5s of the previous generation have been sold overall than saloon versions.? There has never been a right-hand drive version of the M5 Touring, but BMW ?would love to have one for the UK.? 4Car believes there?d be a long list of willing customers who?d be as intrigued as we are at the notion of an estate capable of carrying a family (with dog) at up to 205mph (without electronic restriction). Inspired. Mad, but inspired...

Already seen it, but there's something that doesn't see right... Where are the little grills on the front wings? The mirrors are not the M5's. Of course it can be to disguise, but it seems pretty finished... and too damn high.

Nice. 8)

In my little world the M5 has to be a sedan. I don?t want these ugly wagons to be called M5, too. I was glad that their was no M5 E39 sedan but this time they did it again

if someone got enough money to buy a M5, am pretty sure he can afford another car, like an SUV? so why buy a touring M5... me no get it

the clients for M5 Touring are very few so BMW decide to make "strange" models like M5 Touring, Z//M version Z Coupe producing then once in two generations. So when they made E34 Touring there was nice salse figures, but for E39 there would't be so much costumers to make sence producing Touring version. Actually there is E39 Touring version made, but never hit the roads. It was drivven by the chief of M GbmH.
btw it is very pleasant to go to the seaside in E34 M5 Touring, 4 guys and luggage, traveling with 280-300km/h (speed limiter removed). trust me

A very good point. But it seems that nowadays these hot and fast estates are very popular. For example nearly all Audi RS6s are sold as wagons, and when Mercedes advertises its C32 AMG, there's always a wagon in the pics. And there are a lot of other examples. Maybe this is why BMW wants to make M5 Touring, they just can't afford to be without making it.

Dunno, for me the 5-series wagon version looks alot better than the sedan so for that reason alone should I win the lottery I would go for the Estate version. And BTW would do the same for Audi and Merc as well if the situation would be presented for me

I cant tell the difference between this and a normal 5-series estate.
btw..e55 anyday :D

When reading the title, my world got crushed. Why do they have to do this to a wonderful vehicle? But when seeing the pictures, I think I can finally see where Bangle is trying to take BMW. And that place isn't even as bad as it could.

Now that he hasn't had the opportunity to mess up the rear, it actually looks quite good. The lines are clean and everything is in proportion. This thing will sell more than any M car in the recent history. Still, if I were to buy an M5 E60, it would definetly be the sedan.

its not like you can tell the diff between a 5-series sedan and M5 if it zooms by, the New M5 just doesn't look "M" enough

SUV's are concidered to much in your face, at least here in Germany.
You can drive your kids to school, go to work and vistit a client with the M5.
I don't think that they would appreciate a SUV. As I said, they have a bad image here.

well said Swek!... that is my whole point in likeing sleeper wagons... you get the best of everything and they leave out the worst, like you get a wagon but it isn't as slow as your dog, you get a M5 that can carry your dog at the back :D

I like it a lot, the M5 bodykit is such an improvement for the 5 series. Hurrah for more ?ber-wagons!
