Ford showed off the all-new Galaxy MPV at the Frankfurt Show, but it looks as if another Ford will be getting in the family way as well. Judging by these latest spy shots, the Focus C-Max is heading for a facelift that will allow it to sit more happily alongside Ford's forthcoming MPVs.
Gone is the stubby Focus-style nose of the current model, replaced by something rather more sleek, modern and, dare we say it, sporty. Look around the grille and headlights: on the current car, the sides of the grille are almost vertical, but the spy shots clearly show that the new car's grille has more steeply angled edges that follow the line of the headlamps. The result is that it looks strikingly similar to the Galaxy show car.
If you feel as if you've seen this all before, that's easy to understand. Cast your mind back to this year's Geneva Show, when Ford showed off its SAV, a more stylish and sporty take on the large MPV theme than the Galaxy. We've been told a production version will be along next year, called S-Max, and there's an unmistakable similarity between the nose of that car and the C-Max in our pictures.
From the shape of the headlamps and grille to the front bumper that mirrors them below, C-Max and S-Max obviously share the same genes.
However, as far as the C-Max is concerned, it looks as if the surgeon's knife has carried out a facelift in the strictest sense. Certainly, side-on and from the rear, there seems to be very little change.
The shape of the rear lights, bumper and mouldings looks almost unchanged, and the only difference seems to be a slight remodelling of the rear spoiler.
