The all-new next-generation MINI models aren't due until 2007, but later this year, a new series of engines will be offered in the current model. These will replace the Chrysler-sourced petrol and Toyota diesel units currently fitted, and have been developed from scratch in co-operation with PSA Peugeot-Citroen. There are two 1.6-litre units, one normally-aspirated with variable valve timing (115bhp) and the other a direct-injection, turbocharged unit (143bhp), and we can also expect a more powerful PSA diesel. Engines for the MINI will be built at Hams Hall in the UK. Expect also transmission modifications and minor tweaks to the suspension to accommodate the new engines.

For the Mk2, the basic recipe for the hatchbacks won't change much, bar revisions to the suspension and slightly tweaked front end styling. The wheelbase will be stretched a little, though, and the boot slightly extended, for more rear legroom and improved luggage space. Convertible versions will continue, but the MK2 range is also expected to include a low-slung two-seater roadster and a mini-estate station wagon - a Clubman for the new generation.

Doesn't look like too much change. That's good though :)

are u sure these aren't spyshots from the previous model. don't see any changes :s

I don't think they should make any significant changes.. its good the way it is.. maybe add a bit of touches here and there to make it sleeker.. not bad imo

I was expecting some power upgrades. Needless to say, I am kind of disappointed  .
Why is the turbocharged engine even less powerful than the current supercharged one?

Won't the mini be already out of fashion by 2007?

NOOO NOT THE MINI!!! DONT CHANGE A THING ITS JUST FINE OK.
Damn this modern world with "Out with the old and in with the new".
This car is an icon, they should just leave it :x

I totally agree with you. They can just change the interior, and update the technology.

But in all truth i'm impressed with the new model. Looks good.

Its so small theres not much effort required to hide it.
Is Overheat sure these arnt old spy photos?? I can't see any diffrence :? . If these are new..it might be the laziest facelift since the Porsche 911

lmao @ SL65AMG

I think that's quite ok as they haven't ruined it with some opiatic new-age redesign. It's obvious that they have to update the model every now and then to keep the sales going.

So it still looks nice in 2007 but I doubt it will sell that well. It could be seriously out of fashion by then.
