These are the first pictures of the RenaultSport version of the Mk III Clio out testing around the challenging Nurburgring circuit in Germany. It looks identical to the concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, except with less bling.
Renault has said that the Mk III RenaultSport Clio will use a development of the current 182bhp 2.0-litre engine, albeit with extra power to counteract the additional weight of the Mk III Clio. A six-speed manual gearbox will feature, driving power through the front wheels.
External highlights carried over from the concept car include the vents in the front wheel arches - which should provide extra cooling to the brakes, and an F1-style diffuser in the rear bumper - to aid downforce at speed without needing a large rear wing.
Those multi-spoke alloy wheels look to be around 18-inches in size, and are similar in style to those found on the Megane RenaultSport Cup and Trophy.
The concept car's interior had four individual bucket seats with a chrome dash and centre console - the production model is likely to receive a variation of the regular Mk III Clio's interior, with the addition of sports seats.
The RenaultSport Clio III is due to go on sale in early 2006, and based on our impressions of the regular Clio III and RenaultSport versions of the old Clio should be one not to be missed.
