Spy Shots: Mysterious Aspira F620 supercar surfaces

Source: Pistonheads via Autoblog

Autoblog: Global economic meltdown? What global economic meltdown? There's always room for another supercar to join the ranks lustworthy rides, right? At least one company in the U.K. seems to think so, and its first model, the Aspira F620, has been spotted out and about by the chaps at PistonHeads.

Power will reportedly come courtesy of GM's ubiquitous 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine, in this case bolstered with upgraded camshafts to put out 538 horsepower. That capable engine is mounted amidships and sends power out back through a six-speed Graziano gearbox. Top speed is listed at 209 miles per hour, and we're sure the run to sixty will be dispatched in no time flat.

According to PH, the Aspira is based on a kit car platform from U.S.-based Race Car Replicas. It sports a pretty slinky lookin' supercar shape to be sure, and the company hopes to move ten cars per year at ?110,000 per unit. We wish them luck!

Pistonheads: A crack team of PistonHeads spies has spotted a new supercar undergoing vehicle-approval testing in the UK, and it's called the Aspira.

Now, we realise that working out the name of this new car doesn't exactly make us crack super-sleuths (that numberplate is a bit of a giveaway), but a bit of on-site research and a few phone calls has uncovered more...

It turns out that the new car is actually called the Aspira F620, and it was at Leighton Buzzard IVA centre as part of the approval process to gain low-volume full production status - so this is no kit car.

Power comes from an LS376 GM V8 - a GM-tweaked version of the 6.2-litre LS3 V8 with upgraded camshafts.

Our sources tell us that Aspira manages to coax 538bhp out of the mid-mounted engine, which drives the rear wheels via a six-speed Graziano gearbox that's geared for a 209mph maximum. The F620 also has a custom leather interior, a full integral roll cage, and ceramic brakes will be an option.

The car is loosely based on a heavily modified version of a kit car made by US outfit Race Car Replicas.

Apparently, Aspira hopes to make around 10 cars per year and, with prices starting from ?110,000, the F620 should sit somewhere between the Ultima GTR and Mosler in the pantheon of low-volume supercars.

It's a tough market out there, but we wish Aspira well...

Oh, and if anyone from Aspira reads this, can we have a go in one when it's ready please?

Very much a man-in-shed kind of car.

It doesn't look terribly unique

It has a GM V8

It doesn't look well made

It has no ludicrousness about it

So basically, it will be forgotten in months.

(anyone else wonder how an LS3 has multiple camshafts?

It looks like an Ultima with a Saleen S7 front and an Enzo cockpit and rear. It really looks rather good, I'm glad these man-in-shed cars are still being built.

Looks like the Spirra.

Oh look, another impractical, strange-looking, "Porsche-rivaling" supercar hammered together in a shed in England of which they'll hype up like crazy, build 3 prototypes with bits from Ford Mondeo interiors, crash 2 of them, and then shutter the entire operation.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic. And who cares what engine it has? 538 horsepower is 538 horsepower. I'd have one in a heartbeat.

Stick a rear wing on it and it'd look like a prototype racer.

Its not a bad shape for a man-in-shed car.

surely you need one cam shaft (or a set) per bank no? or does the LS3 use push rods?

Well, it's good to see that man-in-a-shed cars are still being made, but it doesn't look very good to me. Looks like 10 different supercars had a wild night together and came up with this. Maybe it'll make up by being brilliant to drive.

Someone needs to tell him that the Enzo already exists.

The kit it's based on has a wing.

It looks like that bloke from the Peugeot 206 commercial from a few years back decided to have a crack of making his own Zonda.

The commercial, in case you're one of the 4 people in the world that hasn't seen it:

It doesnt look like anything too special, but I love man-in-shed kinds of cars, and those looks would easily be acceptable if its awesome on a track

does look a bit iffy, not terribly goodlooking... lowcar is low, though

Besides, if you're going to use one of the GM engines for a SUPERcar, how can you not use the one from the ZR1 with the insane 640 hp?
