Had the first two rounds of the Inter Uni karting champioships yesterday and had my SLR along, so I took a tonne of photos. First lot are here:

Will be loading the rest on later, but those are my favourites so far. If I was to choose one out of all of them though it has to be this :)

woah that kart is off the ground!

Yes I also race :) Was 2nd for most of my race, but got involved in some back markers crash sadly. Ended up 8th out of about 35 which aint too bad.

Yes....I agree that the one above is a bit blurred. Lighting was poor and even at ISO800 and f4 I was struggling to get much over 1/800th of a sec!

what engine do they have? with gears?

You mean 1/80?
Dump that F4 and get the 70-200 F2.8

LOL. Trust me when I say I'm not getting rid of my 100-300mm f4 Sigma. It's worth ?1000!

I did mean 1/800th. Ideally I needed 1/1000th of a second. When you're zoomed at 200-300mm it's very difficult not to get blurring.

The karts have 100cc two stroke engines on them. There around 15hp and rev to about 14-15,000 rpm. No gears, but direct drive, so instant throttle response but also no standing starts :p 5-60mph is about 4 seconds, although you don't really notice that after a while.

Yeah my bad, wasn't thinking again :bangin:

Why is it so expensive?
The Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 is a grand too, so you could swap :p Since the 200-300mm range is very shakey and at F4 pretty hard to use.

Ah it's fine in decent lighting conditions :p It's useful having the extra reach of the 300 for taking decent pictures at proper racing tracks and for wildlife photography :) I can of course just zoom out to 200mm as well and use it like that. I think the problem there too was that the vertical movement caused by the kerb blurred the image. I was purposfully trying slightly lower shutter speeds then to try and get serious blurring of the background :)

I have to say I payed nowhere near the retail price :D I got it 'second hand' off ebay for just a little over ?300. It had only been used a couple of times though!

I love my 300mm too but I don't find so many situations to use it.. Maeby this summer I'll go to some races and try my hand at that ;)
The 200mm f2.8 is just alot more appealing to me.. Maeby the Canon 200mm F2.8L prime would do the trick

Nice deal you got on that lens though!
