Stellantis will have 14 brands, from FCA's Fiat, Maserati and U.S.-focused Jeep, Dodge and Ram to PSA's Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and DS. PSA has traditionally been more focused on Europe.

Which brands could be for the chop: Dodge? Chrysler? Alfa Romeo? Opel? Vauxhall? DS Automobiles? Lancia?

Stellantis

After the 50% FCA and 50% PSA merger, the owners will be:
  • 14.4% Exor Agnelli family
  • 7.2% Peugeot family
  • 6.2% French state
  • 4.5% Dongfeng Motor Group
  • 2.4% Tiger Global
  • 1.6% UBS Securities
  • 0.96% Vanguard Group

PSA's shareholders approve merger with Fiat Chrysler

Interesting that Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares was No2 to Carlos Ghosn at Renault and could have ended up as boss there.

Stellantis set for road test after FCA-PSA tie-up approved

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot maker PSA Group shareholders have approved a $52 billion merger to create Stellantis.

Following are key details of the deal:

  • The merged group will have annual sales of 7.9 million vehicles and generate recurring operating profit of almost 10 billion euros ($12 billion) on revenue of 180 billion euros, based on aggregated 2019 results.
  • PSA CEO Carlos Tavares will be the group's CEO for an initial five-year term. FCA Chairman John Elkann will be chairman.
  • Stellantis will be domiciled in the Netherlands, with listings in Paris, Milan and New York. FCA and PSA expect to complete the combination on Jan. 16, 2021.
  • The merger is expected to generate more than 5 billion euros in annual synergies. The two groups say no plants will be closed.
  • The merger will unite brands such as Fiat, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Alfa Romeo and Maserati with Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and DS.
  • Stellantis will have 11 board members including Tavares, with five nominated by PSA and five by FCA.
  • FCA CEO Mike Manley will head the American operations of Stellantis.

Opel was a part of General Motors basically since the beginning. They‘re now in bed with the enemy. This just feels weird. ?

Also this is what, the third time for Mopar to try to take on the European market?

My guess is DS will be electric only going forward, and perhaps we’ll see rental Peugeots in the US or something. We won’t see Chryslers in Europe because they’ve tried several times before and nobody wanted them.

I would like to see Citroen here for sure. Chrysler I don't think worked because the idea with Chrysler is showing off and the idea of luxury, not that there's quality behind it, so its probably why it didn't work well in europe, the region known for de-badging brand new cars and all.

Chrysler is perceived as an American car. American cars are special cars for a special kind of customer with specialist parts stores and special garages to go to. Most of the rest of us don't have American on the radar when we're car shopping.

Yes, I'm aware my car is a worldwide GM product. No, it's not the same thing. It's made in Germany and is powered by an Italian engine.

Chrysler tried with Rootes and Simca to get a proper foothold like GM's Opel and Ford with their UK and German operations but it failed, as we all know. They did sell quite a few minivans and neons. I'd imagine everyone's trying really hard to forget all about their last attempt with Dodge. The Caliber makes an Oltcit look well put together.

Carlos Tavares was asked before the deal was finalized, about PSA going back to USA. He said they were, but wouldn't he have to say that.

PSA & FCA have enough spare capacity to build all Ford production. So there are probably a few projects to be trimmed.
