Thanks to the British press there's been quite a lot of Stig talk of late so......

No naming of suspects please or going over the same old arguments ad nauseam, just let's get an idea of how everyone feels.

EDIT: Many users in other Stig related threads have a suggested a Stig Discussion sub section of the Forum to which one could subcribe. Makes sense to me what do you think?

Don't know if we need another Stig thread, but here goes: I am quite nosey in general, and I wouldn't mind knowing who the stig is (although it is likely that I wouldn't know the person anyway). Nonetheless, I understand the Stig as a tool (=! idiot) for piloting a car as fast as it gets, and for that, I don't need to know who he is, since it makes no difference whatsoever.

Understand where you're coming from. Stig threads are so common at the moment I thought polarising opinion would be a good idea. I'm nosey too, but while it's nice to know something, it's only value is in knowing it when most don't. Once it becomes public knowledge it's value falls faster than the Zimbabwe dollar!

I don?t care who the stig is, but I also wouldn?t care if someone told me.

I do care about the fact that there are millions of threads on this board of people asking who it is, or coming forward with exciting theories who it might be, some even make polls about them . These posts are then followed by a bunch of people explaining that they don?t want to know who it is, what with the illusion of the show and everything, and what kind of an idiot are they anyway to even want to know who, followed by people stating that that is absolutely ridiculous and that everyone is entitled to their oppinion yadda yadda yadda...

In the end what I?m saying is: Please please people, stop making annoying statments/theories/polls. And while I realise that no one is forcing me to click on these threads, they are EVERYWHERE. This must stop.

Did we really need to go over this ground again? The question has been effectively covered in countless other threads - I'm beginning to think the forum should automatically delete any thread with 'Stig' in the title - it's gotten ridiculous of late.

I realise your sentiments both of you and am in total agreement. If this poll gives the result I would expect (early indications are that it will) it will be a very strong indicator that there should be a Stig specific subsection of the forum, similar to the TG Spoilers one that has been called for by so many and out of which one could opt if one so chose, leaving the main forum for new topics and less onerous discussion. I would have put that in the OP but was trying to keep it short and sweet.

yeah seriously, put these threads in a subsection that you can choose not to see at all... kinda like the porn section we already have

Ive known for around 2 years now and i wasnt disappointed when i found out. I mean, why should i be? its not someone completely exciting to me. But thats my opinion.
If it were someone like James May (honestly, how f^&*ing brilliant would that be) then id be disappointed if i found out
But having not followed this mans/womans career (not saying their name due to the lack of a spoiler) then it doesnt make a difference
I suppose though that if i hadnt found out then itd be a bit of fun still. So mixed opinions

What really does annoy me though is the way that countless numbers of threads are appearing (generally from first posters with ideas that its some bloke they saw with an i am the stig shirt)
but more importantly, im hating how the newspapers and media are publicizing this whole thing. It was in english papers a few days ago, and just yesterday i saw it in an Australian paper.
And the most annoying bit is yet to come. I know as soon as i get back to school all the wrong people will have found out about it and will all be asking people if they know who the stig is, and parade around that they do and nobody else does and they shit vanilla icecream
and i cant explain why i find that annoying, but it just is

Basically what im saying is that its fine if people want to know. Go out and find out.
But people, noobies, and especially the media should stop forcing this as a story and telling people, because then idiots will find out and ruin it for everyone.
And i also think its mean to be harming this persons career. There's a chance they'll get the boot now

and thats my rant :)

oh and a subsection would be much better. Gives people a choice, as well as chance to see how many ridiculous stig threads they're making

I thought only little kids would be worried about finding out who the Stig is.

I for one, do not worry nor care as to who the Stiggy is.

Don't know why but after so many seasons, my own hype just faded off.

i honestly couldn't give a crap about who the stig is. at one point earlier this week there was 8 or 9 threads all running about the Stig's identity. i can take the hint but its a dead horse that's been continually beaten that i've just stopped caring in general and view stig identity threads as something like out of a soap gossip column.
i can understand people are curious and as a species the human race is always going to be curious, but there are limits and we should seriously just give up and move on.
at the end of the day, if i find out who the Stig is, it won't be a massive shock, it won't be a life defining moment where i will have to rethink my life and it certainly won't make me enjoy Top Gear any less.
so i've voted 'meh' and this is a good chance for the community to move on from a trivial matter.
plus also the tabloids and media are determined to make money from it and quite frankly anything that i do which results in taking money away from those <Insert Expletive Here> i can easily live with.

So, the general public find out:
a) Short Term ? the Dude gets fired. :(
b) Medium/Long Term ? The Power Board becomes a sequence of tedious arguments comparing times, cars and drivers, and then finally useless.

Since we all know who the main Stig is, this thread is kinda pointless.

I voted option "meh" since I honest to God don't give a crap. Not one bit, it's exactly like you here from your sister that some friend of hers knows someone whos brother just commited suicide and your only connection to this person is that you went to the same school, but not at the same time.

My first an only reaction to hearing something like that would be ".......meh......so what's for dinner". I am more interested in clipping my toenails and then putting them on a scale to see how much they weigh individually and combined. That is exactly how much I car about who the Stig is.

This has gotten so way out of hand it makes the 9/11 conspiracy look pretty much non existent. It has gotten to a point where I actually would be more shocked to hear that my neighbour has painted his walls or that my old kindergarden teacher has a new nanny. I would rather learn about the financial structure of Botswana than having to see or hear one more story, report or column of who the Stig is this time, whether they say it is Ben Collins, Damon Hill or Steven goddamn Spielberg.

I mean come on, how small and disproportionally uninteresting does your life have to be if the identity of some semi skilled racing driver dressing up and driving anonymously around some small piece of tarmac once a week in a part of England nobody has ever heard about is the biggest single piece of excitement you can have and that keeping that said drivers identity as a secret makes the Kennedy assassination look completely meaningless ?!?

Yes, I am way more interested in ranting about this whole shabang surrounding the Stigs identity than the subject itself....

Er....that's the point. Since (currently) less than 5% of forum members seem to care, this thread is not pointless as it points towards the creation a Stig Sub-forum for those who do care which the rest of us can ignore.

If, in light of the recent press, TG does the unexpected and gets a "new" Stig then at least there will be a place for them to debate it.

All rumors about the Stig's identity are wrong anyway. We all know that the stig is more machine than it is man. It doesn't even have a gendered pronoun! Any thought that a man is inside the Stig is just a weak attempt to anthropomorphize a non-human object.

A Stig sub-forum would be largely useless as most people who visit the forum simply post 'ZOMG, Teh Stig is...' and then paste a link. They're the same people who completely miss the search button and would simply go ahead and post their groundbreaking story in the normal section anyway.

Whats needed is when a new member signs up to the forum, they can only post in a special newbies section, completely unseen by the rest of us (maybe for kicks we could have viewing access), sort of a training wheels area, if you will. Graduation occurs when, in that sea of mucus, someone posts a pearl and proves themselves capable of posting properly with the rest of us. You know it makes sense ;)
