OK, this is beyond crazy. Some truly crazy shit. About two years ago one of my long-standing clients referred a dude to me to get a website done. The dude's name was Randy Griffin and he owned a custom sunglasses/jewelry shop.

I went to Randy's shop to talk with him about what the site needed to be like etc. Everything went well and he paid my deposit in cash. Two or three weeks later Randy's business partner called me to say that Randy was shot and killed outside of Club 112. Randy's business partner said that Randy had a shady past and had recently gotten into a shoot-out with some other dudes. He also said that Randy was truly trying to go legit by opening the shop.

I just thought Randy's past caught up with him, hoped that his killers would be found, and moved on with life.

So, imagine my surprise when I was on Hulu.com today, watching America's Most Wanted, when they started talking about Randy's murder. Turns out it may no have been about Randy's past or maybe America's Most Wanted didn't know a lot about Randy. I don't know. All I can say is this shit crazy.

For those of you who can see Hulu, check this out to see what AMW said (it's the second story about the gang murders): http://www.hulu.com/watch/66309/americas-most-wanted-episode-28

I know this isn't something that will spur a 20 page thread but as I said this is crazy to me because I knew the guy that was murdered.

That is pretty trippy. I would go to the police and give them any information that could be useful.

Maybe get a nice fat wad of cash too.

Although I'd watch out for his former associates knocking on your doors though.

Summary for folks who can't see Hulu: I didn't go into detail of the AMW story because it's such a complex story. But, according to the AMW story, the dudes that Randy got into the shoot-out/robbery with were from a gang called the International Robbing Crew. They tried to rob Randy which lead to the shoot-out that I mentioned in my original post. The gang later came back to kill Randy. The gang was linked to at least 7 other murders in Atlanta.

isn't this kind of robbing and shooting a bit common in the states?

Trippy indeed.

Not that long ago a girl who was a major contributor to this local orlando forum I used to post at was murdered. Her ex-boyfriend went to this party she was at with a friend, chased them down and killed them. I also just learned that he was sentenced to death. Apparently she had contacted the police on several occasions about things he had done and threatening messages, but the police (apparently) were not able to do anything. And something I just found out about while looking for a news story to post here, the murders actually prompted a bill (named after her and her friend) that extends domestic violence to dating relationships, which should give the police more authority to act and maybe prevent another senseless killing.

I just couldn't believe it at first. This is someone who I didn't know personally, but had so many discussions with online. Unbelievable.

Two people I went to high school with killed a guy because they thought he was hitting on them. He was known as being a very VERY openly gay man, and these two idiots have been renting an apartment from him, located right above his bar for close to two years

A former co-worker was killed by a former child that was under her care in some Cult years ago.

We had just voted her our Employee of the Month before she left for her "vacation." For 6 months her photo was on the Employee of the Month poster in the break room...such a shame, because she was 100% the most kind and generous person I've ever met. She was single, and when she'd buy a loaf of bread, she knew she couldn't finish it herself before it went bad, so on her way into work on her bike, she'd give the other have to a group of homeless people that hung out near the store.

Didn't use to be and still isn't, but along with violent home invasion robberies it is a new twist that is becoming alarmingly more prevalent. Some posit that this is because of the increase in gangs from Central and South America that have invaded the cities, in combination with the economic climate.

It appears that run-of-the-mill criminals have finally learned that dead witnesses do not testify.

Fewer and fewer people are asking me why I (legally) carry a gun for self protection; more and more ask where they can get one, instead.

Yep importation of new types of crime seems to be a side effect of immigration - mostly illegal immigration I am afraid. There was a time I remember when street crime / mugging was almost unheard of in the UK it was imported and taken up by the locals.

Some of the influences in the media re-inforce this as being accepable, finally we can no longer look to our "leaders" as they are corrupt and in the pockets of such people as the Carlyle Group.

/EDIT What you never hear:

"I was on the barracades demanding Super Casinos. ..." or
"Britain needs Super Casinos. ..." etc.

If you're interested in reading about how economic conditions can favour certain types of crime and activities, I strongly recommend Freakanomics - an absolutely fantastic read.

It really does expose the myth about New York and most of America's other violent city's crime rates being lowered through "tough policing," but attributes the relaxing crime rates of the late 90's on economic prosperity.

Similar but not a murder thankfully, i just found out yeaterday my former German teacher died early March from some illness he has had for years, and nobody at my school ever knew. It's sad, I couldn't read his obituary (it was really big because he contributed to the community so much) because it just freaked me out.

He was a really nice teacher, he taught us german songs and funny jokes about thermos flasks.

I work in a very very busy shopping center. And twice in the last few days a women was robbed, at gun point, leaving a bathroom stall in the womens restroom (I believe the one woman was also hit in the stomach). Crime is really on the rise in Orlando.

The only thermos flask joke i know involves minced meat, truckers and their sex life, thus is NSFW.

There's a good one involving David Beckham (or whichever thick person is in the public eye at the time).

Yeah, I recently went LCD shopping on Craigslist and came across someone trying a scam wherein the would-be buyer would be assaulted and robbed by three men. I politely explained to them that I was not interested in being their victim and they left.
