Stupid Driver Stories

Seen last weekend during a roadtrip down to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in France:

"Dum-di-Dum", cruising along closing in on a camper van, but then I suddenly hop onto the hard shoulder...

...because I had a look into my mirrors and had seen this one coming up from behind.

Surely that camper van has seen him too... or since the siren is blaring now atleast he can hear him...

...nope...

...not a clue... blind and deaf. - Oblivious to all of it the camper is dragging the ambulance right on his ass way to next roundabout. WTF? :?

Up there we all come to a complete stop before the idiot finally has realised from where that blaring sound maybe could be coming from...
http://img217.imageshack.**/img217/3937/49717340.jpg

...but staggeringly he is still in the way of it half around the roundabout..
http://img805.imageshack.**/img805/8998/48535385.jpg

...before he finally makes room.

And off we go.

The ambulance drove very smoothly and went onto the breakes very gently so I assume there was a patient and medical staff in the back. - How many times have you been stuck behind a mobile home, yearning to have a siren on your car to blast him to the side? Seems not even that will help with some of the truly greatest assholes of the snail-with-a-shell division.
Is it just me or is there a completely open left lane for ambulance to overtake that van?

And my own story today... so because there is construction on my subway line I am taking the express bus to work (mass transit is best way to get around my ass) so the bus takes the highway into Manhattan, the highway is pretty crappy it's pretty bumpy and the road is made up of those groovy blocks of concrete that don't help. So I look over and there is a dumbass in the next lane in a Corolla hands completely off the wheel (folded on his chest) and he goes and switches to another lane. I can only hope he was using his legs to steer because alternative is that the car bumped itself over to the next lane and he didn't even bother moving his arms... To make it better he had a passanger in the car...

From the really smooth way the ambulance was driving and braking I assume any hard accelerating or sudden overtaking moves weren't in the interest of the patient in the back. The ambulance driver probably expected the camper would go to the side at any moment, but by then they had already reached the second roundabout were the ambulance was stuck behind the idiot because of the high curbs.

It is a well-documented phenomenon in emergency services circles that bright flashing lights and loud sirens actually make a vehicle invisible, rather than impossible to take your attention off of. However, air horns remove this effect, and suddenly, the oblivious driver is aware of the big loud flashing thing behind him.

Unfortunately, this tends to startle said driver, and the chances of the driver deciding that the best thing to do when you have an ambulance or fire truck behind you is slam on the brakes, or swerve into the nearest solid object, skyrocket.

And if he'd just simply overtaken in the first place....

That's it. I'm installing a truck horn.
To hell with installing horns, I'm installing a guided missile system. Let's see if the trailer trash douchebags will hold up traffic now...

The junction where I almost T-boned a double-decker.
I'm third in line at the lights, guy in-front rolls back... rolls back... rolls back... I could see what colour his socks were...

I had to use the horn. I've rolled a couple of inches, this was a good foot.

This is the history of that video from the description of the video:

I overtook a truck with dangerous goods (which is limited to 80 kph, so slower than normal trucks which are limited to 90 [ed.]). Meanwhile the Audi came flying from behind with high beams. After I finished my overtaking he moved into my lane and blocked me for 3 km.
As you can see at 0:56 min the truck went to overtake the Audi but he sped up so the truck couldn't overtake.

This sort of thing happens quite alot, we call it 'frustrated office monkey syndrome' , tends to end badly quite often, especially if the truckdriver is an Eastern European high on everything known to man who hasen't slept in 3 weeks.

"Sorry kids, daddy ain't coming home tonight, he thought it was amusing to mess with 40 rolling tons in his Cockmobile"

I don't get that... "hurrr.. i gots a 'lil audi, i'm gonna stop many tons of truck! because aaudi is indestructible! because it's got quattro!"
brake checking a truck... what does he think will happen?

fucking audiots.

I agree.

The guy in the Audi is an idiot in any case.

And at 0:06 he couldn't have just overtaken after the bus went past? There was 10-15 secs before the next vehicle went past (granted, don't know how long it took to pass the truck). Then 25-42 secs there was also no one passing.

Yes, I know it takes longer for a truck to pull out and overtake, and would not have necessarily meant that the audi driver would not have been a douche, but still...

From the description Eye-Q posted, it sounds like before the video began the truck overtook another truck, forcing the Audi to slow down in the left lane. Once the truck finished overtaking, the Audi moved in front of him and slowed down. So even if he did try and overtake at 0:06, the dipshit in the Audi would have sped up and blocked him just like he did later when the truck finally did attempt to overtake.

That's beyond retarded... as impatient and road rage prone as I am, if I fly up on you in the left lane and you clear it I'll just be on my way because you moved out of mine....

That could have been handled better by both sides. If the truck driver just slowed down normally with the Audi, eventually he would get either bored or embarassed as angry road users pile up. This only applies becaust the truck doesn't have much to fear from being rear-ended though.
