Movie: "Sucker Punch"

Awesome movie! Fight scenes were well choreographed. I've never pictured those girls to fight like that. They must have did some training. Even the way they handled and moved with their weapons.

The visual and sound effects were radical, man. The soundtrack mashed nicely with the feel of the movie.

With that said, there were some pretty cheesy parts with the CGI stuff, especially with jump-in-the-air scenes. Look liked a static image that they just moved across with a mouse.

Oh, BTW, plots are for pussies. hahaha. Just playing'.

Also just watched it for the first time, and agree that it MAJORLY lacks in the plot department. I get the whole "girl escapes into a fantasy world to deal with shit" aspect, but it didn't really pay off in any real way. Frankly, I would have rather seen her do the supposedly trance inducing sexy dance then all the flashy video game graphic cut scenes. They also brought out too many plot points that they didn't flesh out. Its the "if you show a gun in the first act then it needs to be shot by the end of the play" thing. The biggest one of those was that she never got payback to the psycho step dad guy who killed her Mom and sister. Plus, of all the girls who actually deserved to escape, its not the one who did. IMHO, she should have died and her little sister should have made it out (the one who blew up with the city/got stabbed by the cook).

At the end of the day, if I want to watch flashy video game graphics, then I'll go play Final Fantasy. Having those doesn't give you the freedom to have horrible writing. The only people you will fool with that is 12 year old boys. I would have been psyched to have played some of those scenes in a video game though, but just didn't work in a movie for me. Didn't help that they ripped off the style of both the Scott Pilgrim movie and ones like Sin City. It went a little bit different direction, but not far enough to be innovative.

Does anyone else wish that someone would go back to making movies like they used to in the Blade Runner/Dune/Original Star Wars days? Something about using models and real film camera's rather the CGI that I miss big time. Lord of the Rings (Fellowship mostly, since they caught the CGI bug the later in the trilogy it got) is the last movie that I can honest to goodness remember using real models for things, and it shows big time. Maybe we'll see it in the Hobbit remake, but I would love to see a Sci-Fi that goes back to it too. Certainly beats the overproduced stuff we saw in Sucker Punch.

Oh yeah, and why the heck is it actually called "Sucker Punch"? Didn't seem like a very fitting title.

Wow, I can't understand all the hate this movie is getting. I guess it's a "love or hate" movie; if that's the case, then I loved it. :D

The visuals, the hot girls in sexy outfits, the music, and the action scenes were all brilliant (also, some of the acting was pretty good). The only negative aspect about it was the plot (which wasn't even that bad, it just hardly made any sense).

So is that the main complaint from everyone? The plot? REALLY???

Watching this movie for its plot is like buying an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione for it's driving dynamics. :p

Movies like these (like most of Snyder's movies) are designed to entertain and I was certainly entertained.

Since some people are comparing it to TRON: Legacy, I have to say that I enjoyed Sucker Punch more simply because it was more fun, but TRON got better ratings because it had a slightly better "plot".

All those critics giving bad ratings (and all you guys saying "worst movie ever, etc.") are just sad, sad human beings.

The plot is the strongest thing that can hold a film together. it can't be held together with girls in leather or over the top action scenes and special effects. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen proved this. When i see a film, i want to see a story unfolding. not have my eyes assaulted by Zack Snyder porn.. erm film style. A film should make people come out of it thinking "that was enjoyable and well written" not "what the hell just happened"

The fact that Snyder things he can cover up a lack of plot with leather girls and fireball explosions just makes it worse. Its almost like something out of the Michael Bay school of film-making.

Thank you, Mr. Unnecessary Ad Hominem Attack. Getting a verdict like this from a person like you actually is a compliment. It's like being called inhuman by Hitler.

Sucker Punch lacks a better plot, I am fine with that. What I don?t get is that it?s not a worse movie than Transformers or 90% of the blockbuster summer movies and yet critics and audiences act like it is the worse movie ever ZOMG!!!
I even read one that completely missed the point about the cabaret, asking "How does one hide such a huge operation in a mental institution?"

I have not seen anyone praising Transformers, either. I think the point is that critics have given up on Michael Bay (and his audience) years ago, while Zack Snyder styles himself as some kind of hyper-auteur and claims to produce films with artistic merit, not mindless stuff-gets-blown-up entertainment. That changes expectations.

i quite enjoyed it.

mindless action flick with lots of guns and explosions.

Finally saw it last night and despite the great soundtrack and nice action scenes, I didn't really like it. It wasn't bad, but I guess all the hype around it made me expect much more of it.

Hopefully Snyder's Superman version will have more of Watchmen and less Sucker Punch.

Been a long time since I've heard Lords of Acid in a movie/trailer/commercial/tv show. I love that they picked "The Crablouse" as the song for this movie.
10 years later, this GODDAMN SONG popped in my head and I just couldn't remember the name of the fucking thing.
For reasons unknown to me, I remember that you told me which one was it, on this thread...
So, thanks again.
