Hello there,

First of all, i like to thank everyone who's made this site possible, ie Viper, VUK... ...Thanks a bunch guys!!

But here's a suggestion i just thought of. I was watching this 45min long Russel Peters stand up comedy thingy, which is encoded in real media *.rm format, and it's just 57mb!! Given that it's about half the size (normal aspect ratio) of the typical VUK wide screen recording, i'd guess that if it were double the size, that'd be just about 115mb? And if you wanted to include better audio, perhaps max out at 150mb.

That'd be great for our harddisks eh? ;)

I'm not sure about encoders and stuff like that, but there u go:)

My 2 cents worth

Sincere regards
Shaun

Hell no, Dude... Some ppl wanna watch it on TV and not on the computer...
If the Scene is going for Xvid it should be fine...

Anyway, at the current filesize Xvid is 99% as good as the new H.264 codecs. Coming to really low bitrates, yeah, sure, .rms and the others maybe superior. But I haven't anybody heard complaining about the 350 MB... Hell, I dl the 700 MB ones...

Ha ha lol this is a joke right  RealMedia= rat shit
Besides, most people are quite happy with the current format and like Buba said, "most ppl watch it no the tv and not on the computer.."

RealMedia is junk and not gonna happen. The res is also much lower probably and RM gets real boxy with movement.

Well, those issues are gone with the newest .rmvb

Still, I hate it, and I'm happy everybody sees it the same way..

yup, Real Media is of the devil :)

uh... yeah this is kinda pointless... no offence but like everyone said already, i wanna watch it on tv...

on the other hand you could always d/l it then convert it to *.rm yourself you save space.

ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY!??!?!

RealMedia is the worst piece of shit ever invented! :bangin:

 Encode in RealMedia. Thats the funniest thing I have heard all day.

RealMedia is one of the most computer users unfriendly thing on entire world...

 I saw the title of this thread and burst out laughing :lmao:

Thanks for a good laugh on a crappy Friday, I needed that

Don't worry newbie, we still love ya  Stick around :D

Somebody gonna get a hurt real bad. Somebody. I'm not going to say who. I think you know him very well.

Oh, and I saw RP live back in March.

Evidently RM has really improved over the years as far as quality is concerned, but still not nearly as good as xvid and it's a PITA player as far as I'm concerned.
See :
codec shootout : http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/codecs-104-1.htm
conclusion : http://www.doom9.org/codecs-104-5.htm

My opinion:

- AVC (h.264) is best, but demands more horsepower for encoding and decoding.
- RealMedia might have decent quality (by now, it really used to severely suck), but just about nothing supports it and the player blows. (If you do use it, use realmedia alternative).
- Xvid has excellent quality and encodes and decodes quick.
