Tata Motors to present $2500 car

You all laugh, but this car could quite possibly be for India what the original Mini, Fiat 500, and Beetle were for Europe: transportation for the masses. For all you know, 50 years from now these things will have a cult following and will be quite desirable. ;)

Laughing? No, it's a great business decision on their part, they will probably sell as many as they can manage to crank out. I was just saying that if there's any other option, I'd take it over this. Most consumers aren't that picky however.

ambassador ftw

This isn't the first time a built to a price was introduced, and it will be far from the last. First time car buyers will snap them up, drive them until they fall apart, then, like most people, move up in the automotive world.

And in the meantime, I predict Tata will sell off Rover and Jaguar (if acquired) within five years. Bank on it.

^ It doesn't look too bad, it's a funky city car. I'm not sure why there's a side air intake though, it's not like it's got any power - a 800cc engine with ~33 BHP. lol But it should be good for the congestion of the city.

Tata Nano? I fear an Apple lawsuit on the horizon... :p

That is a very interesting concept. Even the design doesn't seem to look too bad. Is it going to be FWD or RWD? The next VW Beatle?

You know what that reminds me of. The Ford Th!nk. Hopefully it'll have the same success as the Ford.

Well, you've gotta give Tata SOME credit - it's fugly, and that's quite a feat for such a small car.

Umm..I'm not interested in this anymore. It looks ridiculous, especially considering I study in WV. Can you imagine me parking this thing next to the typical Ford F150 or Dodge Ram :D I'm guessing everyone is going to make fun of me :)

And I don't think any other car manufacturer in the world, even given multiple millions and many years, could make an interior as hideous as that. Who thought 'Sand' was a good colour to use inside the car?

It's $2500, some cars' nav system/stereo cost that much.

Rush Limbaugh's view on the Nano, give this a read:

....Okay, fine, all well and good. Well, this is super! No. The environmentalist wackos are livid. "Environmental critics have said that the car will lead to mounting air and pollution problems on India's already clogged roads. But Tata said the car had passed emission standards..."

This is not the point! The point is here is a car that might help the Third World move into the Twenty-First Century by getting the horse and buggy or the donkey out of the mule out of their lives; expanding their ability to go places and transport things. It has no air-conditioning; 2,500 bucks, probably a thousand miles to the gallon, and who is it that is denying the poor people of the world this tiny little technological advancement? It's the same environmentalist wackos who are spreading this global warming hoax on everybody else! It is they who deny the poor people of the world a chance to prosper and improve their lot in life, be it in India or anywhere else. You take this thing to sub-Saharan Africa, and you watch what happens. They will blow a gasket. So this idea that liberals and the socialists of the world are all for the little guy, and that they want to improve the lot in life of the little guy, that's not what they want to do. They want to destroy prosperity for everybody. You never hear liberals talk about elevating people at the lower rungs of society. You only hear them talk about punishing people at the upper rungs, and here's a great example.

This car is a joke, but for certain people in the world, it would be one of the most amazing steps up in their lives ever: the improvement in their lives, the quality of their lives, their ability to get places, transport things. But it runs on fossil fuels! "That's right, Mr. Limbaugh! It runs on fossil fuels, and we're trying to get rid of fossil fuels, and this is certainly insensitive of you not to understand." The truth is, that all the bleeding heart leftists, disguised here as people in the environmental movement who have all this understanding and compassion for the suffering of the poor and the destitute -- the hungry, the thirsty, the sick -- don't want them to improve their lives at all. They won't allow farming techniques in the Twenty-First Century; they will not allow any kind of technological advancement in these Third World countries. They want them to continue to live in maggot-infested, insect-infested little swamps; pools of water with malaria all over the place because they think that will save the planet, when it's killing the very people in Africa they claim are they are the ones who have all the understanding for.

I agree. because of the automobile, humans live longer, healthier and more wealthy in the past 100 years than in any time of the human existence. I say bring it on, Tata! This could be the Model T of the 21st century.

I don't see where environmentalists get off on criticizing this car, which I agree with Limbaugh for once (jot this down guys, this could be the only time in HISTORY) will improve the lives of those who actually need their lives improved, for having supposedly piss-poor emissions. It's a $2,500 car fer Chris'sakes, were you really expecting a solar-powered hydrogel biofuel-cell E85 nanodiesel wunderkar for that price?

Environmentalists truly are out of touch with everything around them, and it's both pathetic and hilarious.

Oh, and why do all cheap cars have to have the proportions of Daleks?
