Not gonna get the whole site done in time for when Fifth Gear is ready, so I've put up a temporary site: http://www.finalgear.com/

I'll post the link to the download there when it's ready to go.

i really like the design

There will be a navigation bar at the top on the final design, but I just took it out as I didn't want to be asked 500000 times why the "Download" link doesn't work.

And you can thank zerosignal and everyone else who helped for that design. ;)

the design kicks ass!! very very nice

Nice, maybe you should place a PayPal buttonon to the right, if that's no big inconvenience.

Sounds like a plan. I'll have zerosignal make a "PayPal" header bar for it.

I'm gonna look like the party breaker if I say what I think but I'll still say so.

It looks very tacky and more amateurish than the old one to me.. but well if everyone else likes it..

You done repeating yourself yet???
I was getting the overloaded error when I went to post it, so I didn't think it was getting posted. :?

No it's bad, from 6-7PM (GMT-6), I wasn't able to access the forum, it's cool now tho :D

Probably due to both increased traffic at Plus613 and to me linking to a forum thread on the main page.

I've made the main page completely static pretty much (none of it is database driven, but the times at the bottom are updated on refresh). Good thing about that is it's not bogging down the server really. Gonna keep the site like that probably until we get the new box.

What I don't get is why the site stays up even if the forum goes down. Have you guys decided to shut the forums down under heavy traffic to reduce the load on the box ?

What's really happening is that the hard drive(s) are getting over stressed. Since Plus613.com is a big fat random image site, it serves lots of images. The database is also stored on that hard drive. The database retrieval times out or MySQL is trying to open too many data connections at once (there's a set limit to try and stop time outs and such). This causes the error.

The current main site isn't database driven. It's entirely a static page, minus the times at the bottom which are just PHP generated. The new site stores the list of downloads and stuff in the database and hence why I'm not going to put it up until we get a new box. The new site would just contribute to the load.

Thanks for the explanation. This is why we need a new box then. It's not even a bandwidth problem as I thought.
