Well, I know its not really automotive, and nobody will be interested but UKD, or actually not even him, because its a BMW...

Anyway, I drove something that has a better 0-60 time than the Enzo and the Ariel Atom... K 1200S...
http://img213.imageshack.**/img213/226/dsc000765gz.jpg
Doesn't look that killer from that perspective

Well, interest may arise when the speedo says 280km/h and the odometer more than 10000 rpm, so far unheard of with BMW

Awesome brakes... I almost flipped it over...

Be aware if you see this coming...

Anyway, its supposed to go 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds... But I'm certainly not the driver to that with it after 20 km...
Its supposed to go 280 km/h (about 175mph), but I only took it to 220km/h (about 138 mph) because it wasn't on the Autobahn, and more of a shitty piece of road...
It turns out 167 hp, weighs 248 kg (a power to weight ratio of 1.48, which is better than a Koenigsegg CCR...) and 130 NM.
It revs up to 11000 rpm, but I only did that once, and it was in 2/3 throttle in second gear... Seldomly I was more scared than at that moment... Not a good thing at 150 km/h...
The first 5 kms I didn't even wind it up properly, only to about 5500 rpm, because I was so scared...

Boy, have I had fun... I was screaming in hystery while accelerating, and suddenly getting a fast car isn't my top priority anymore.

Afterwars my Dad wanted me to try this:
http://img213.imageshack.**/img213/4011/dsc000814si.jpg
It handels even better in his opinion, but I sat on it and 110 hp didn't do the job anymore... I could max out every gear without getting frightend

So, expect a K 1200 S picece of picture in my sig soon...

If this bored you people, I'm sorry, but it was fantastic for me, please just look away ;-)

///edit: completly forgot... I didn't bring my real Digicam, this was just my cell... Sorry...

Quite nice. I have always been partial to the R1 though. Ever since I did 140mph in it, nothing feels the same.

I am interested :D

But isn't that the weirdest / UGLIEST tail light EVER... Looks really... well, odd.

Getting those kind of performance figures from bikes, you need to have strong arms to hold on :p

Looks nice  , I wish I had a motorcycle licence

Well, I really like it... I'm simply a BMW man... I also thought, I would like the Ducati 999r, but after having had a seat in it... I think I couldn't go more than 5 km...

If you were a girl, I would send you a picture of my strong arms ;-)

Maybe that's the reason why UKD is so into working out ;-)

Yeah, I'm a heavy man and when I turned the throttle on a kawasaki 1100 (wanted to see if it really goes to 12K rpm like the meter says, never found out, lost nerves around 10k) I SERIOUSLY had trouble hanging on the bloody thing. The pace of these performance bikes is just unfu****believable.

I am moore at easy with cruiser bikes with big (lazy/torque) engines.

I would love to ride one of these, unfortunatly I still have to wait a year until I can drive unlimited motorbikes :( :(

I wonder whether a dealer would allow me to have a go on one of these ?

Well, I was suprised how easy it was... I was with my Dad and his Girlfriend. Both took their BMWs (R850 GS and K1100LT) to the service.
When he asked if his son could also drive one or two of those, they just said "as long as he has a license for it..."

My Dad asked me which one I wanted to drive, and the K1200S was the first choice. 15 min later my Dad came back and oof I went... Didn't have to sign anything, just sit on it and go...
Man, if I would have the 12900 Euros he wants for it (it has 5000 km on it) I'd go tomorrow... I better hurry with studying, I guess...

man BMW really does make a nice looking bike... tho i have always been partial to their "adventure" series like THIS

 Hurray! Another conversion.

I've never tried a BMW bike. They've never made a true sportsbike (to my knowledge). I like the single side swingarm.

Was this your first time riding? If so, you have some major guts to go that fast.

I went riding with my neighbour who has a similar type of bike (Kawi ZZ-R1200). He has it modified to make over 200 hp. :?

Did you find any good corners?

Here's a review of the BMW: http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/k1200s1st/

Uuuuh... Hell no.. I mean, I got a license for like 5 years now. And I'd say I've done like 6000 km on a bike since then...
So, I'm not a complete n00b, but then I don't have any real experience.
And as for the corners: It felt good, but as I don't have any real comparison... (the cruiser BMWs don't fall into that segment ;-) )

Dunno, its just such a HUGE step forward when I think of riding my Dads 7 year old machine.

Unfortunetly this bike was without the electonic damping control... It somehow sets it to 9 different modes (the m5 programmer must have had some time off...) like riding alone with comfort and luggage, riding with somebaody else on the back, or the sport setting for fun... Would have been interesting, but then I guess you need some time to figure stuff out, maybe on a 1000 km roadtrip.

200+ hp in a bike??? Holymoly... That's how much M. Barth has in his TTR Bike on the Island of Man...

///edit: Nice article... But I can tell you the BMW boys have dealt with the fuzzy low end behavior of the engine... You can stick it in any gear at 2000 rpm, and off it goes, really smooth...

I'm sure that bike is all fun compared to a car, but how is it campared to other bikes?

I think I've read somewhere that Yamaha has a bike with a power to weigth ratio of 1:1. 170hp and 170kgs...

the 2001 R1 has 180 hp, and weights 172 kg. So thats a little more than 1:1.

Whoa! Thats 1:1.05 to be exact.

Thats like a Land Rover with a Spitfire engine...

I was thinking you were completely insane, and the people that lent you the bike were worse.

I can't believe that BMW has ABS. :D

It does since 8 years or so...

No, some sanity is still present... Would have been a shame paying 121 Euros studying fees today and then trashing myself on a bike... Dunno... Won't do it ;-)

Still I think those people at the shop were crazy... They just gave you the key and thats it. In most of the bikes the keys were in them, as somebody along the day tested them...

But somehow, the Ducatis were a bit locked away... I guess it reflects that they are twice as much money...
