TG going to Japan

If TG were to do a cheap car challenge in Japan, these are the cars I think they would buy.

Jeremy- Some Japanese sports coupe from the '80s or early '90s.

Richard- Probably a k-car, it seems like he would buy a small car, like Oliver.

James- Definetly a Toyota century- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Century.

LOL:lol:

I see a pattern XD

I'd love if they'd have to buy a pre 1960 car on a budget which would be road legal :p

Dunno if Clarkson'll get a sports car, but I suspect Hammond might opt for a Toyota Hi-Lux, on the excuse that having experienced all these cheap car challenges he may as well get a car that everyone knows will be a survivor.

How much do they get to spend again?
If they include on road costs they'll be struggling to get a Century under the limit. Private sales here are almost non-existant and even though dealers will advertise cars for cheap, you have to add at least $1k to that price for licencing, tax and "maintenance".
I think a Kei car challenge would be sweet. Clarkson in a car about as long as he is tall would be amusing.

Looks like filming got pushed back a bit,

With only two weeks to go before the Thundersprint it?s a something of thrilling time. I?m not complaining because sorting out "challenges" is written into the job spec. - but the last couple of weeks have thrown up a few blinders.

First, the BBC decided to change James May?s filming schedule and now he will be in Japan for Top Gear the same weekend as the Thundersprint (May 10 and 11)
. Then, because BSB at Brands Hatch was snowed off, we lost Leon Haslam to HM Plant duties.

May 10-11? In Japan? Really? How interesting because Richard is recording a pilot for another new show that Saturday. In London.

This article says James will be at the Thundersprint event, so I don't know what to think anymore. :?

No, James will not be attending Thundersprint. He will be out of the country in Japan. Apparently the information in the article is outdated...

But there's lot of conflicting information, and yes, Richard is filming the pilot for Cashback on the 10th. Perhaps he flys out afterwards?

This one is back to basics, more hardcore, mega car, mega opponent, with a solid premise. And a clue for the geeks: we did it in Japan.

GT-R v Shinkansen.

FUCK YES

Does anyone else want top gear to do top speed runs on the wangan ? I know i do.

my guess is...

I think this will be similar to the segement where the boys went to Spain to test the German V8 saloons. It looks like they went to Japan to test the GT-R and brought along a fearsome opponent (Audi R8).

i think nebus has hit the nail on the head.

when i read this (see link to article) my first thought was the boys were filming this - seemed far too much fuss and bother just for a print/web mag article.

maybe i'm naive about how much fuss goes into a mag, but how cool will the footage be if they did film it?

*drooling*

They seem to like engineering, and bridges. I saw a doco on the Akashi bridge in Kobe on Discovery channel, man that was some serious engineering. I doubt they got that far though.

Bullet train doesn't seem very original, but there are only so many different forms of transport.

Not that keen on speed runs in the Wangan. 300kph on a public road... in a tunnel? Its all fun and games until you kill someones family. And fire in a tunnel = not good.

But wasn't I the guy who first suggested it as revenge on the original Wangan wankster? I'm a hypocrite.
