That one car...

I, like most of you, I bet, am always researching cars and trying to figure out what I like/want. I've been doing it for years and every time I end up coming to the same conclusion - STi. I just love em. I like the looks, the sound, the driving experience. At the same time they also appeal to the head - practical, reliable, and relatively affordable. Sure, I often think that I'd rather have [blank] but sooner or later I go back to that Suby. I can see myself playing on a beach in it in the summer; ripping some mean donuts in a snowy parking lot in the winter; going on a roadtrip; autocrossing; or flying down a twisty road in the fall watching the bright leaves swirling around in my wake.

What's that one (or multiple, really) car for you? The one that you just cant help but lust after?

The two I've been researching like crazy for the past 3 years.

1989 BMW 635CSi/M6
1995 Volvo 850 T5-R

XR6 turbo.
YB cosworth powered MK2 RS2000
Ferrari 355

Mk 2 Escort in F-cup trim for the road.

My brain is constantly reminding me that 100+hp /litre from a 70's crossflow can't be reliable, and that a straight cut short ratio box would majorly fuck up the fuel economy, but how can you resist something like this:

It's wonderful..

Oh I know exactly what you mean. I am constantly thinking and pondering about which car would be the one I most want. I absolutely love huge exec. saloons so an E38 7-series or perhaps an XJR would be what I want? Maybe I want something more sporty so Audi S8 ? No no, BMW E34 M5 is what I really want, but if I want an M5 it has to be E39...but I love estates so Audi S/RS6 ? But do I really need a big car....so an MX-5 would be awesome, but I would feel such a prat driving around in one, it's a lovely car, but not my style.

But there is one car I keep coming back to, each and every time.

BMW 850i. It's big, comfortable GT cruiser, which happens to go like stink, has more presence than most battleships and oh, would you just look at it ! So achingly beautiful. I know it drinks petrol like there's no tomorrow and it has only two usable seats, and the boot isn't as big as it should be in a car this size. And if something goes tits up in the V12, it costs about an arm and a leg to fix. But I love it. I wouldn't mind an automatic at all, but just the thought of a manual one makes me want to sell my kidney and half of my liver just to own one.

There are two for me:
The first one, I've been dreaming about for the past 3 years - a Dodge Daytona! Not the Charger Daytona. Just the Daytona - the 80s Turbo K-Car. I'll always want one of these.
The second one has been mine obsession for the past year - a Volvo 850R with a manual swap. I used to like the E34 BMW, but now I see that the Volvo is so much better :)

Lancia Delta Integrale HF EVO II has been the automotive love of my life for the past... oh i don't know 6 years or so..

the other near constants are:
323 GTX
RX-7 Turbo II S5
94-98 MX-5
E34 M5

FD3S RX7 R2
something like this, minus the spoiler

Acura NSX (red or white, 6 speed)
Ferrari 456 GT (green or red with 6 speed)
Lamborghini Gallardo (black w/ e-gear)

I really would like to own a Bentley Turbo R one day.

Also a turbocharged second generation Toyota MR2 (SW22) looks like it would a helluva lot of fun. Just 10 years ago, Toyota was still selling a turbocharged mid-engined sports car that weighed less than 3000lbs and had ~240hp. And they even look pretty good:

It's the STI for me. No matter how much it looks the boy-racer, no matter how much I would fit that stereotype (without the ridiculous spoiler and fartcan), I want one terribly badly.

Also, the Ford Mustang. I've always loved these cars, from the first time I sat in one. Now that I've ridden in quite a few and driven two, I want them more than ever. To be honest I think the first new car I will buy with my own money will be a V8 Ford Mustang.

Due to Sega Rally corrupting me at a young age, I have wanted a Lancia Delta HF Integrale. I know, it'd rust away instantly where I live, and I know it's italian so the parts that didn't rust would break, but god I want one.

And a '67 Buick Riviera, but I can't explain that one.

I do exactly know your feeling, but I can't make up my mind what I want!
I always, always, always end up thinking too much about it!
I'd really love to have a TR6, but then I think it needs quite a lot of care and isn't all that practical... things like that always get in the way. I simply love the way most oldtimers look, and would dearly want to own one for that, but then I remember the technology underneath all the beauty is twice as old as me... damn it!

I think an Impreza is a perfect choice. Or perhaps a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO. They are quite good at almost everything, except perhaps fuel economy...

But my personal favourite would have to be an Audi A4/A5 3.0 TDI Quattro.

Corvettes. I just love Corvettes. I don't care what year, even the ones that were choked to 100hp, because I know how easy it is to correct that problem. They're not the best built cars, but they all look great to me and they all function well.
