The 2020 elections, news, and discussions

I really feel for Chris Wallace because he was agreed to by both candidates, both candidates agreed to rules, one candidate was completly unhinged.

I don't know what the other moderators will do but the President can't be trusted to keep his word to follow the rules.

Judge Rules Against Texas Limit Of One Drop-Off Site Per County For Absentee Ballots

A federal judge has blocked a Texas plan to limit voters to one location per county for dropping off absentee ballots in the upcoming election. The decision says the restriction places an undue burden on older and disabled citizens.

The limit was imposed last week as Texas experienced a surge in requests for absentee ballots, even though most Texans aren't eligible to vote that way.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced that he was helping to protect election security by allowing only one drop-off site per county. Democrats accused Abbott of trying to suppress the vote.

Judge Robert Pitman's ruling sides with The League of United Latin American Citizens which sued to get the drop-off limit reversed.

The lawsuit said the governor was forcing absentee voters to travel farther and to more-crowded locations, increasing the risk to populations already especially vulnerable to the coronavirus. The suit also said the Postal Service has warned it might not be able to deliver ballots in time to be counted.

The state may appeal the ruling.

The California GOP is now being accused of setting up illegal fake ballot drop boxes around the state.

How to win an election:
  • Collude with foreign entities to sway the election
  • Annex a major news broadcaster as the "mainstream" propaganda arm of the party
  • Weaponize racial nationalism and other extremist groups, legitimizing them if they are supporters.
  • Eliminate checks and balances by making the Judicial branch and Senate extensions of the Executive.
  • Suppress voters by purging voter rolls and registration
  • Suppress voters by limiting ballot drop locations
  • Suppress voters by dismantling a constitutionally mandated service through political cronyism and appointees
  • Create fake ballot collection points
We are just one step away from finding piles of pre-filled ballots for the sitting leader and a voter turnout that exceeds the population. Then we can claim full Banana Republic status.

Could be a felony? Those assholes should be in jail.

This should be enough to a) get the people responsible jailed and b) the party disqualified from the election.

Edit: After reading the article, it seems to me that this may actually be legal? What the fuck?

Ok, so: to improve voter turnout, two things were made legal:
1) people holding "ballot parties" where people get together to complete their ballots, then give them to someone to turn in all at once, saving everyone else from having to make their own trips to turn it in. Great for families with kids, elderly, etc. It was also made legal for campaign workers to hold events like this.
2) "ballot harvesting", where people could go door to door, most likely to places where people are less-inclined to vote (low income, minority communities, elder citizens), and go door to door offering to collect ballots.

In both cases, the hand-off is to a person who can be held accountable, and the law says that anyone doing this has to make it clear that they aren't official poll workers.

The boxes are trying to skirt the "hand off to an accountable person" part, and are actually labeled with "Official Ballot Drop Off". The first part's legality is dubious but not totally clear-cut, but the 2nd part is definitely illegal. These boxes are also targeting right-leaning strongholds, like churches, to attempt to try to improve turn-out with those that are more likely to vote R. There's not any proof or hint that they would do anything illicit with the actual ballots (eg, opening them and disposing of D votes, etc).
