The Australian politics/election/whatever thread

Not much of a choice is it.

Dammit, I dyed my hair reddish (well, as red as a natural brunette can go short of peroxiding it) on Sunday :(

When I saw her pic my first thought was she looked like you. Now it's even more of a resemblance

I love living in Brisbane
Our (Liberal) city council does their job very well

I also think changing leaders is a bad move, as the Election is almost upon us - Isn't it around 6 months till the vote?

As opposed to the Labour state government thats systematically fucking up everything else.

I live in Brisbane too, I still don't really know what the Clem 7 was for, it doesn't seem to ease congestion much.

1. The tunnel itself is ok, the million k's of roadworks and construction surrounding it isn't, paticularly at the northern end of it.

2. Nobody wants the toll for it even though its discounted till the end of this month (could be end of next month, i can't remember)

Dont care whether it's Gillard or Rudd, it's still the same sinking ship, and Labour have done such a shit job these past couple of years that they've actually made Tony Abbot electable.

Shit, I don't think either really is at the moment. Unless Gillard can prove herself, I'm probably just going to throw my vote away. That, or not vote so I'm not to blame for the shitstorm that is politics...

She's ok, but a bit inexperienced. You just want the internet filter gone :p

(meh, so do I as would any member of this forum wh's an Aussie I would daresay)

I don't want just the internet filter gone, but also a modern telecommunications network as well.

Labor will play scare tactics with Abbott in the media, methinks. Abbott may appear to be electable now, but wait for the media barrage that will portray him (rightly or wrongly) as a right-wing bigot.

Personally I think Labor moved too fast in getting rid of Rudd. He stuck by his policies for the most part, but shelving the ETS hurt his left-wing credentials badly and that was the start of his popularity downturn in the polls. Admittedly he had little choice as he couldn't get the ETS legislation through a hostile Senate. Another failing was his execution - he was always far too preoccupied with the details; he should have delegated more responsibility to his ministers while ensuring that they actually took care of their portfolios and put out positive spin. After all, 90% of modern politics is spin.

Labor will play scare tactics with Abbott in the media,

They already have, repeatably claiming that he'll bring back work choices without a single form of evidence. By the same token Labor might be planning on brining back Gough

He is one IMO, and most of my family who can vote (male or female) agree with me.

and nsx, agree 100%. I especially want a really really good broadband network and soon (and not just in the capital cities please. I have no chance of upgrading from what I have now due to infrastructure crappiness)

At least she isn't homophobic and chauvanistic (or female equivalent, feminist to the point of lunacy). Or if she is, she seems to be able to keep her personal opinions about politics (very admirable quality for me). I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Abbot being in charge of legislation relating to homsexual and women's rights genuinely scares me. :(

(I don't exactly like how she is a unionist either mind you, I just vastly prefer her and the Labor party over the current alternative. Liberal really shot themselves in the foot getting rid of Turnbull IMO)

You can add "racist" to the list of Abbott's credentials. The current Liberal scaremongering about refugees is appalling.

We need to start a Finalgear party of common sense.

Seriously, I have no intention of voting for any of the candidates at the moment. They're all fucked.

It really (as is the case in politics everywhere) picking who is less crap than the others, for the love of god don't vote greens or something like that without reading their policies first

I won't vote the greens in the same way I wouldn't vote for family first.
