Interspecies breeding?
No, 747's and a few other planes were built with the ability to carry a spare engine, however on most planes that capability has been removed. External engine carriage was never very common and is almost unheard of today. The idea was that not every airport would have a spare engine you might need so if you had a plane stuck somewhere another regularly scheduled plane could just drop off the replacement engine. However today with parts sharing it has generally gone away. It did increase drag and so was an expensive way to ship an engine.
I've been to the RIAT2011 last weekend, picdump to follow in the next few days =)
BBC said:A South Tyneside man who shone a laser pen at a Northumbria Police helicopter has been jailed.
Richard Oliver, of St Vincent's Street in South Shields, repeatedly targeted the craft from his garden, forcing the pilot to divert from the planned route.
Oliver was jailed for six months for the offence, and a further six for breaching a suspended sentence.
He had earlier admitted shining a light at an aircraft in flight so as to dazzle or distract the pilot.

I don't know how to embed, but if this video doesn't move you, you got problems...
After seeing the picture of "Fifi" I started thinking of all the airplanes in which I have ridden. So I made a list and I thought it would be neat to see other people's lists...
T-6 Texan
B-29 "Fifi"
B-25 "Martha Jean"
Boeing 727
Boeing 737
Boeing 747
Boeing 757
Boeing 777
MD-11
MD-80
MD Super 80
Airbus A320
Airbus A330
Ford Tri-Motor
DC-3
Piper Cub
Cessna 172 Skyhawk
Cessna 182 Skylane
Cessna Citation Excel
Some Biplane, but I can't remember the model
I think that's about it.
Some people are so stupid, it amazes me.
Aircraft I have loggable flight time in ...
I've ridden in so many aircraft, I can't even begin to remember them all, so this is by no means a complete list:
Avro Lancaster
Concorde
Douglas DC-3
Piaggio Avanti
I am now more envious of you than I was before.
Concorde
Well thanks, I guess, but believe me, you envy is somewhat misplaced...at least, it feels that way right now. It's a bit before four in the morning and I'm just about to head out the door for work. Today, I get the pleasure of flying my usual hour long trip north, where I get to sit around the airport for almost eight hours, before I get to fly home. I've done this sort of thing thirteen of the last fourteen days, and everything is starting to feel like "Groundhog Day"; in fact, that damned Sonny and Cher song was cheerfully played by my alarm clock this morning. All in a day's work... :/
