The Aviation Thread [Contains Lots of Awesome Pictures]

Anyone remember the crazy "stealth plane" models from that time we knew the F-117 existed but had no idea what it looked like? I actually had this kit as a kid.

I do remember those models, but not that particular one.

I sent that video to my friend, we were arguing about whether or not Slave1 was a stupid design. I thought the rotating pilot's seat was similar to the Slave1 retcon in The Mandelorian.

Very interesting interview with the boss of engineering at Airbus about the eco future of aviation.

Unfortunately only in French, worth watching for those who understand it.

Two years after second 737 MAX crash, have Boeing and the FAA changed enough?

FAA safety engineer goes public to slam the agency’s oversight of Boeing’s 737 MAX

Jacobsen should have been among the FAA specialists who reviewed the MAX’s critical new flight control software during its original certification, which was largely controlled by Boeing. He’s confident that he and other FAA engineers would have flagged its serious design flaws. He got the chance to do so only after the first crash in Indonesia, in late 2018.

Tell me again about all the awesomeness of deregulation?

Tell me again about all the awesomeness of deregulation?
I was thinking more like we are witnessing the awesomeness of cost cutting.

It's both public, at the FAA, cutting them to the bone, to the point where they are no longer able to perform the oversight they were supposed to do. But it's also private, at Boeing, prompting them to make take the cheaper and faster choice, stretching the ancient 737 design way past its limits to make the Max, when they should have done it properly and started with a clean sheet modern design.

The result is that both the "fiscal conservatives" among lawmakers, and Boeing's shareholders are happy. The rest of us are left to mourn the lives lost as a consequence of this.

Cutting funding to oversight agencies is a classic GOP tactic to force defacto deregulation without actually fighting to change the laws and rules.

"We need a fast helicopter."
"Hold my beer."

The F-11 Tiger's landing gear has to be one of the coolest ones ever:
