So while we're on about boats, I was always curious as to the difference between a Destroyer, a Battleship, and a Cruiser, and why a battleships are considered "obsolete" now. I'm completely ignorant about ships, so I could be completely wrong about the obsolete bit
Also obligatory, the Yamato
Meh, while it had some crazy guns and was an engineering marvel, it was completely worthless and got it's ass kicked hard by airplanes. If anything, it showed how dead battleships were. Case in point: it didn't even make it to Okinawa which it was sent to on a one-way trip to defend.
This is the awesome thread for ships, and the only thing more awesome than a capital ship is a fleet of capital ships.
An awesome ship is one that completed its primary purpose, not one that was killed before it could fire its main guns in anger. The Yamato was useless, the Japanese should of put the resources into more carriers than that white elephant.
