The FOOTball thread

Looks like there have been very serious incidents involving extreme right radicals in the Austria Wien-Ath. Bilbao match. Quite sad to see football used once again by radicals as a platform to demonstrate their stupidity.

The qualifying draw for Euro 2012 is today. The pots:

Pot One: Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, England, Croatia, Portugal, France, Russia

Pot Two: Greece, Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Turkey, Denmark, Slovakia, Romania

Pot Three: Israel, Bulgaria, Finland, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Pot Four: Slovenia, Latvia, Hungary, Lithuania, Belarus, Belgium, Wales, FYR Macedonia, Cyprus

Pot Five: Montenegro, Albania, Estonia, Georgia, Moldova, Iceland, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein

Pot Six: Azerbaijan, Luxembourg, Malta, Faroe Islands, Andorra, San Marino

Sweden!

And Netherlands, I have to see that game.

Group H: Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Cyprus & Iceland.

Given Norway's amount of good games after getting the new coach (Egil Olsen), I'm actually confident we'll advance.

FIFA World Rankings ? Feb 2010

Well the rankings are what they are, believe them or not they are only indicative anyway.

I think that within a confederation, in this case UEFA, Europe, the rankings are probably about right. Across confederations, is more problematic for me.

If you don?t like the ranking system & algorithm that FIFA uses, complain to them! :p

And that's different order from UEFA coefficients:

Rank - Previous rank - Team - Total points

1 1 Spain 26506

That explains why, for example Hungary is ahead of Finland in UEFA rank, but Finland was pot 3 country and Hungary was pot 4.

^ That?s interesting and I suspect it is due to the cross confederation matches? points in the FIFA list. (England higher than Italy is a puzzle? :?)

Your UEFA list is the better indicator of current form for European squads.

I HATE Kevin Phillips.. <_<

^

Well, could you hate him over in the EPL Thread as well, this is the general Football thread. :p

A big FUCK YOU to a certain Kevin K. ("Kevin" - it's not a name, it's a diagnosis :D) from some unimportant suburb in the northern Ruhr Area.

Watching the US v. Nederland match....and I thought the Italians were divers. A couple of these Dutch players have no honor.
