The Funny Maths Thread.. which sometimes contains mildly amusing pictures

More pictures from the embarrasment that is Russia. Guess this is what happens when you don't pay tens of thousands of workers and forcefully expell them from the country to make sure they will never be compensated. On the other hand, being expelled may be preferable to being anally raped with a metal rod by the police, which is what happened to the poor Russian workers who dared to complain.

The Sochi winter Olympics, the most expensive ever. How much of the 7 billion went straight into his bank account?

7 billion? Where did you get that number? They talk 50 billion here.

But it's not as expensive as you might think. Yes, the 50 billion spent in Sochi are more than all other previous Olympics together... BUT...

As we can hear from well-informed quarters, 32 of those 50 billion went straight into corruption. No trace of it.

So the actually price was only 12 billion and that seems like a bargain, really... I mean they turned a swamp into civilization. Last time something like that was done, it was called Washington D.C. :)

I contest your assertion that DC is civilized. Isn't 12 billion towards the expensive end for an Olympics still?

EDIT: Yes, yes it is. Sochi cost more than every other Winter Olympics combined, many of which were put on for less than $12 billion (I assume adjusted for inflation; not sure, can't read (Dutch?)).

Depends what you call expensive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_the_Olympic_Games

But still, we're talking about fucking winter olympics here, it's mostly boring and imho doesn't have the same prestige and attention as the summer olympics get.

So $12bn is kinda expensive yes.

50-32=12?

(this is the maths thread, right? :p)

Yeah. If you have $50b, and spend $32b on corruption, you'll need an additional couple of $bs to cover up that corruption leaving you with only $12b. Maths, Putin style

no no, those numbers seen right - as published by Russia's anti-corruption bureau. "we will investigate the 32 billion misappropriated from 50B budget. that leaves 12b for cost - no?". drives away in a fleet of bentleys...

Real life fact: Russia does have a audit office, but the reports on Sochi have been classed for "official use only". Obviously the official Russia will not release those reports until they develop some sort of democracy and rule of law.

Meanwhile in southern England.....
