I sometimes wonder about 'New South Wales'. I mean, that's very specific. It's not just New Wales, just one particular part of Wales. Especially considering that when it was established, New South Wales made up half of the Australian continent, it seems a bit strange to name all that area after just the south of Wales.

Remember that when those places were founded, folks there were still immigrants from somewhere else, who gave up their homes and wanted to preserve a bit from it within their new community. I can fully understand that. Man always likes to cling to what he knows - like an anchor.
