The Gun thread

Love Tropa De Elite. My roommate showed it to me a few years ago. Really good movie. Cant wait for Monday. Exams will finally be over and my friends and I are all going to the range to celebrate. Nothing like shooting away your exam stresses.

Guys, have you seen "Elite Squad"?
To me, the gun handling looked alright, but what do you think? Any errors/mistakes/etc?

Just got done watching this. I enjoyed it. Really shows the personal aspects of that line of work.

As far as weapons handling goes, they were pretty close to what is correct. I did see a couple chicken wings with they were using the rifles. Chicken wing being when the shooters trigger arm is sticking out. You want that elbow down with the body. Showed some excellent stuff when they were training at the shooting range. Textbook urban fire squad grouping and tactics.

Mmm...MOUT/gun porn...I'll have to check this out.

Glad you liked it.:D

Nope, but the Saiga forums think they're solid pieces. The only catches are that if you put anything but a red dot on it, you will need one of the special long-eye-relief scopes on the market and that the mount holds the scope up rather high so that a good cheek weld may not be possible for you.

Yeah its going to be a red dot. I think that's the one I'm going to get. It looks like its held solid by just 4 set screws clamping it to the receiver. Is that correct?

Went to the range with the '74 today. Bad news....its key-holing something nasty. 80% of the shots were completely sideways and even from very close in (20 yards) I couldn't keep it within 12''. I went with my friend who I am buying the gun from and we agreed that he would keep it. The ammo was fine as it went through his bulgarian 74 just fine. I might end up buying his bulgarian instead for $100 more.

Let me guess, it's a Century-built gun?

I'm not really sure. I'm willing to bet it is though.

Well with the bulgarian, I am open to quite a bit more part-interchangeability ideas. And I won't have to buy a regular stock as it already has one. Just have to get the lower handguard and foregrip now.

Damn it, I'm not a Glock guy, but I was talking to a guy that has a NIB 17 with night sights and 5 mags.

$525....

K31 vs Mauser (yugo with admittedly a bad extractor)

The mauser kicks a little more because its lighter.

Yeah, the straight pull bolts can be faster - but the Mauser action is stronger and will better contain the results of a case head separation or other catastrophic malfunction. And if the Mauser's extractor hadn't been broken, it wouldn't have been that far behind.

Never heard of a K31 bolt failure. Although, the Mauser was $70 and the K31 was $300 haha

Also, never seen a Mauser do this...

I have.

There is a reason why most every precision bolt rifle in the world at this point is a Mauser action or something that's based on a Mauser action. The famous Remington 700 series is a Mauser action simplified for faster production while retaining quality and accuracy.
