Happy Diwali man! I wish I could celebrate as I did when I was a kid in India by lighting up firecrackers!

My relatives get the 10,000 firecracker set now and blow it up while I listen on the telephone. That shit pops for like 2-3 minutes!

Will post any delicious Indian sweets made at home!

Happy Deepawali to all of my friends, brown or otherwise.

Happy Diwali to all my Hindu & Sikh neighbours & all others elsewhere.
Fireworks have been going off around the neighbourhood, since about 20:00.

Yay!!! Happy Diwali to all my Indian friends who belong to the relevant faiths!

Happy Diwali!

.... maybe a brief summary for those of us unenlightened?

Its basically Christmas and New Year's for a Hindu. It signifies the start of a new year in the Hindu calendar, commemorated the return of Lord Rama after 14-year exile during which he triumphed over evil, plus there are many other events ascribed to this period Hindus generally celebrate be worshiping Laxmi, goddess of prosperity and other festivities such as sharing sweets, decorating with lights (hence the term "festival of lights") and where local regulations permit, fireworks :)

Thank you! Sounds pretty important then, enjoy the festivities.

Here are some pics i took tonight. Not much decorations for us and many other people, and my camera phone is very primitive, but here's some of the fireworks and some lights :

Now where's the booze?

For the non-indians, they're vadais which are crispy fried fritters. And before you ask, no I will not FedEx/UPS/Carrier Pigeon some to you.
