The 'I don't like Tesla' Thread

It just doesn't stop.

Tesla created secret team to suppress thousands of driving range complaints

About a decade ago, Tesla rigged the dashboard readouts in its electric cars to provide “rosy” projections of how far owners can drive before needing to recharge, a source told Reuters. The automaker last year became so inundated with driving-range complaints that it created a special team to cancel owners’ service appointments.

I think the EPA, NHTSA, and FTC might like to have a word about that one.

I sense a class action lawsuit is in Tesla's future!

That was me too. I don't think I'd buy another Tesla at the moment. Seems to me that there are three types of Tesla owners:
  • The devotees who see Musk as the messiah and will wave away any faults in anything he does, no matter what.
  • The tech nerds who some of the early adopters and were interested in the tech and/or the performance, most likely this segment who is seeing through his BS and the faults with his products. Tired of being guinea pigs for a company that removes stuff they paid for.
  • The normal car buyers who just want a product that works, see a Tesla as a status symbol rather than a rolling technical experiment, seem to be getting the worst end of Tesla's issues and might try to fill up their car with fuel. Not sure if they know or care about the Musk/Tesla connection.

The third group, however, seem to be getting more and more to the point where they consider the cars just good value for money… and buy them en masse.

I actually put in that people might think a Tesla is a good deal but removed it because they aren't as cheap as the used to be, the UK at least has removed the incentives and plans to tax EVs soon. Some EVs are good value for money, I just don't think Teslas are any more.

I wonder how many Model 3 owners buy the Tesla simply because "Tesla = electric cars" the way "Kleenex = tissues" and "Q-tip = cotton swabs". Most people aren't car geeks and they might not realize how many EVs are on the market.

I've been asked about my e-Golf in the parking lot of a department store after someone heard me pull in next to them silently. After a few minutes, the person said, "Thanks for the chat! I had no idea Volkswagen made a Tesla!"

"Tesla" as a generic for "EV", to many people, is like how many of our parents used to call every game console a "Nintendo"...and there's likely a lot of crossover there.

If you want an EV, then in the case of model 3&Y I’d argue Tesla does offer the best bang for the buck in comparison to competing EVs, especially with the base models (and the still comparatively good spec those come with).
Arguably, in many market segments there simply are no (attractive/sensible/none) EV options at all.

It's easy to ignore him as a Tesla-Fanboy etc. But he does have the data sheets to prove his points. I don't know of anyone else who has as much experience, and is as meticulous and transparent in testing BEVs as Bjørn Nyland.

The reason for Teslas popularity is than their cars, specifically the Model 3 and Y, are great deals when you take into consideration their range, performance, and tech. You can get similar or longer range from other cars, but they will be more expensive, and have worse tech, with buggy fast charging, and laggy and awful infotainment systems. Or you can have something similarly priced, but with worse range, and buggy fast charging. Finally you can have "Tesla range" super fast charing, good responsive tech, and way better build quality, but at a way higher price. It all boils down to whether you can sleep at night knowing your car has uneven panel gaps.

When it comes to Elon, he should just stop dicking around with Twitter/X, being the internet's greatest edgelord, and focus his attention on something useful.

I think he's better than a fanboi but then again he still calls himself Tesla Bjorn, and does the Tesla referral scheme.

In one of the video he was driving another make and it had features Tesla don't, but he was saying 'Tesla we need this shit'.

Technically he does some of the best EV charging and battery testing.

Don't understand the need for the fanboi's to always defend Tesla, even more so in TB's case.

TB makes some good points but he really would be taken more seriously if he was independent.

Tesla and Musk have such long history of being misleading, you can never trust them.
