Welcome on board Rik! Have fun. (Waarom die Duitse spreuk in je sig?)

Damn! Another brochure from BMW...10 of the 20 pages don't show anything but a blurry road...
And about that car...I'm finally starting to believe what my grandfather always told me. He said that everything was better in the olden days..
The lines and contours of the car are really beautiful but those rearlightunits...
I could get used to the front, as long as it doesn't look like that 7 series
But it almost looks like BMW's stepping off the Chris Bangle/Terror-look...the front looks a bit more "normal" then the past "ugly-models".

But man those rearlights...why the Mitsubishi Carisma look? :?

Engine should be good though.

Well, I like it. No, I love it. It was 100% needed. The previous generation BMW's had finalized the previous design. It was perfected. So they had to move forward with a new challenging design. Now, I admit for some this new direction might not be beautiful at first sight. But one thing's for sure, a new BMW doesn't become boring after a while. I still turn my head for every siebener, but couldn't be bothered for an S-class or XJ. Same with the f?nfer. And I hear a lot that after some time, and especially when you see them in the "flesh" people start liking the design. A lot of people have critisized this direction, and said it would destroy BMW. But they have had one recordmonth after the other. They have outsold Mercedes-Benz globaly for the first half of the year with a smaller range then MB. Profits have never been higher. I'd say they were damn right with the new design.
And they improved quality along with it, making BMW the best scoring European brand in most survey's ( like JD-power,... )

I for one like the new styleing, and they've perfected it with this new car. Someone buy me one pls :)

I too believe they couldn't make the old 3 and 5 series more beautiful than they are now.

But they have had one recordmonth after the other
How many new 7-series do you see around? They were all practically in the showroom, nobody would buy one...(very wise decision by the way  )
Maybe in the US you see some (white  ) 7 series driven by rappers. But in total I think I've seen 20 of them...(and yes I DO spend some time on the road)

I hope it will get better, that new 3 series isn't as radical as that 7-series...So I have good hope... :)

It's not the best thing to base if a car sells well on the amount you see of them. Fact is this is the best selling siebener ever  Salesfigures have been excellent ( not as recordbreaking as was expected, but still excellent ). Check Auto Motor und Sport-site and you'll see that the siebener was the best selling car in his segment for the biggest part of the year, better then the S-class and waaaay better then the A8

Ha I just thought of something...
So people buy those 7-series and hide them in their garages
I would be ashamed too

But I have to admit, I neither see them S-classes and A8s around here too...maybe I should move to a better, car friendlier environment

Would you consider buying a 7-series then? Or would you go for an A8 or S-class

Sure, If I had that amount of cash and was 46 going 50 in a heartbeat.
For now a 1 series would suit my age better, or maybe this 3 series
but alas, don't have the money

another ugly Bimmer. :|

its just a complete mess. why do you think daring would work with a car design?

a stunt man is daring, a car design shouldnt be. on top of that i bet the ppl that say this is beautiful or "different" would also say that christina aquilera has style and is beautiful.

lets hear your opinion MPower.

But in the meanwhile they're outselling the brand that inhabits your sig and avater. So they must be doing something right

If everybody thought the way you thought we'de be driving boxes on wheels by now.

That is the biggest crock of garbage I have ever heard. "A car shouldnt be daring". If cars shouldnt be daring, then we wouldnt have some of the great cars of our day like the Pagani Zonda (very daring in design inside and out), and the Ferrari Enzo.

I wouldnt be so quick to call it a "complete mess". The front end is very nicely done with a 6er-style grille and a nice lines going from the front to the back. The only problem I have, with the pictures, are the rear tail lights. But that is something that I will have to judge once I see it in person.

I wouldnt call it beautiful, but I wouldnt call it a "complete mess". It is different and certainly looks much more interesting than a bland C-Class or Audi A4 or Jaguar X-Type.

There are also a lot of Honda Accord's, Toyota Camry's and Ford F150's, etc... on the road (at least in the US), does that mean those cars are beautiful?

 But they won't cost you 2 camry's, or 3 for that matter

Agreed, I think that if BMW continues with designing this way, and we get used to the new designstyle, they will be beautiful one day...restyling that 3series will make it more beautiful each time...just like the previous model

Not too bad, but hopefully the coupe would look better. However I still can't stand the look of BMW's new interiors.

not that cars shouldnt be daring but this is an example of daring done incorrectly.

how can you look at this car with too may lines going all over it and nothing remotely symetrical and say its attractive to the eye???

on top of that, fine the Zonda is daring and has outrageous looks but do you really need a entry level sedan to look crazy?

ever since bangle started designing these lovely cars, he has been butchering the exterior for each model. i can imagine how ugly the coupe and M3 would look.

and whether you like it or not these looks ARE controversial as they always spark a debate. no need for media to say bangle wants to create controversy with these horrid exteriors.

even though he did the new Z4 and i really like the design, every other car has been okay or in the case of the 5 and 3 series, ugly.
