The "New Toys" Thread

About the lack of heat from the monitor and TV:
Seeing how long they are on a day, I think it's a good thing I switched both to energy star compliant units.
But don't think for a second that was my primary reason for switching.

I spy a Bose receiver, but where are your speakers?
Center channel is right next to the cable box, to the right. ;)
All others are wall mounted right by the ceiling, angled down.

It's really small here.
Pic was taken with the camera on time delay by itself on the shelf against the back wall (!).
So those tiny little speakers cubes are just wonderful in such a room.

Goddamn global warming...
Tell me about it... <_<

I got this a couple of days ago Nuvi 750

nuvi760rf-thumb.jpg

(I think thats actually a 760...but there not real difference except mines silverish)

It works like a charm, and I got the MSN receiver with a deal!
How do you like it so far? I've been doing a lot of research on gps units the last few weeks and think i've narrowed it down to the 760. I'm just not sure I'm willing to blow that much money on one.
I have a Streetpilot C-550 also from Garmin and I just  it. :)

Anywhere in North America Garmin is the brand of choice. Get yourself a unit that speaks street names (text-to-speech) and enjoy. Watch for sales and get a current model and you'll be fine.

Units to avoid are listed here:
http://www.gpsmagazine.com/buyers_guide-units_to_avoid.php
The one from that list I see most often is the Streetpilot C-330.

Got this today!

Should be converted to this sometime next week:

Can't wait to watch Top Gear on it. ^_^

Enjoy, their great little devices. Remember don't update to 1.1.2 yet if you want it jailbreaked.

13 Garmins and 2 TomToms on that list <_<

I don't know about America but in Europe TomTom seems to be the brand of choice i even know people that had newer Garmin's that bought TomToms because they where unhappy with their performance.
Notice I did say Garmin is the reference in North America.
I too hear TomTom is the reference in Europe.

I love my Garmin, it's accurate and speaks French. I've never had to use a GPS in Europe . That is the length of my experience with GPS units.

The biggest thing making me weary of buying the Nuvi 700 series is that they are replacing the SiRF Star III chipset (the one that gpsreview.net says is a must) with the Bravo chipset, which is less sensitive. As of right now, some of them still have SiRF and some don't). Hopefully, with future firmware updates, the Bravo chipset will become equally as effective as the SiRF is, but I'm kind of doubting that.

Teleatlas (TomTom) Is apparently better in Europe and NAVIQUE (?) (Garmin) Is better in America.

Oh, thanks! I was thinking AppSnapp supported 1.1.2, but it doesn't. D'oh.

The Nuvi 750 is amazing! Its fairly accurate and its got a ton of cool features. It very good value, butI got the 750 with MSN Direct.

MSN Direct is pretty good actually...the traffic (really important in georiga) is accurate (basically what shows up on Google Maps), weather is right, gas price is fairly accurate, and movie time info is spot-on.

I really love the Nuvi 750!

I just came back from Hong Kong and Japan and bought a whole lot of stuff there. There is so much more variety, wish I could go back now! :(

Bought a Canon 580ex II speedlite

Shure Se310 headphones. Sound isolating headphones. Can't hear anything around me but the music when I'm wearing them :D

Toshiba A200/R00 laptop. Sorry about the bad photo of the laptop.
It has Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, 2gb Ram, 160gb HDD and running Vista which is really annoying to use.

A Sony Rolly speaker dancing thingy. Yes its a egg that rolls around and dances, but it was cute and I had to buy it (Expensive but I had to buy it, little bit worried about the Japanese software though :p). It does pump out really good sound from this tiny little player

Heres a clip of the Rolly
Sony Rolly clip

Also bought a Velbon tripod too. Wanted to buy a Manfrotto one but they didn't have the head the I was looking for. And I bought one of those Nintendo DS lite cartridges that allow me to download "home brewed games".

Couple of weeks before I left I bought a 16gb iPod Touch. This thing helped with the long flight.

Now all I have to wait for is my credit card statement  --->
