The "New Toys" Thread

^ Nice.. I recently upgraded to a Motorola DCH-3416 when I got an HDTV.

This thing is an amazing upgrade over our old 811 receiver. It has dual tuners, so we can watch/record two shows at the same time, or record two shows and watch a previously-recorded show simultaneously. It's also hooked up to another TV in a different room which can utilize one of the tuners (comes with its own RF remote too). You can even hook up an external HDD via the USB ports (one in the front and one in the rear) to extend your recording capacity. Another bonus is the receiver's ability to transfer photos from a digital camera or other device via USB to the internal HDD, where you can create slide shows and stuff.

Does it do your laundry, as well? :p

I was impressed with the Motorola for its dual HD tuners and all of the connectivity it offers, ethernet, eSATA, USB, and firewire. Annoyingly, the cable company has it all disabled for now, though. I haven't tried the eSATA port, because I don't have an external enclosure for it.

Still on a bit of an apple binge; Ordered these

Ordered for ?8.95, no plan on installing it anytime soon but might as well get it before the Jan 27th deadline !

Considering getting that dock. Lemme know if it's any good.

Well, I actually picked it up in in work yesterday, cost ?35 on discount.

It's very straight forward, rubber bottom to stop it slipping, nicely weighted, S-Video, line out and 30 pin on the pack so plenty of potential for expansion. I only got it really as a desk tidy, looks pretty neat aswell. IR receiver on the front or use with the Front Row remote too ...

Hey Cosworth, how do you like the Mighty Mouse? I find it so awkwardly shaped and uncomfortable to use. It's seems rather uncomfortable for extended use.

1.8 terabytes of HDs sitting in a stack:

Like 6 hours of work (gutting, cleaning, installing):

I'm used to using the wired version in college and never found it a problem, shouldnt imagine it causing too much trouble. The main bonus is that it doesn't hog my rather scarce amount of USB ports on the MBP !

^ Mmm, true. I like that it's small and Bluetooth, but I find it doesn't fit your whole hand, which makes it weird for me to use.
