The "New Toys" Thread

Some nice hardware there, Raheel! Very shiny :)
That is one sick heatsink on your chipset as wel. Is that stock?

@Nabster: you buy a fancy B&O mp3 player, only to put it inside an ugly protection cover and to play Madonna on it  How much did it cost you, btw?

More pictures to come when I actually clean off my desk and get everything organized!
Always wanted a drobo, but they cost way too much, congrats!

Yeah, I thought that too for a long time. Then I got a little financial help for it over Christmas so I figured might as well. First time I plugged it in it was weird, data transfer was amazingly slow. Then after a reboot everything worked fine.

But now I hear the new HP home servers will support Time Machine backups and Mac usage, which kinda bums me out. Mainly because with the HP stuff, it'll automatically backup it's data to Amazon's S3 as well, which would be sweet if my Drobo would just do that automatically. Oh well, I'm sure there'll be a hack eventually for it.

Thought I had to point this out: Your Cpu HSF is pointing the wrong way. Right now its pulling air from the back of the case, and that black case fan is exhausting air, the airflow is messed up. Turn the Zalman around and It willpull air from the front of the case, trough the fins and out of the back assisted by the black case fan. And the Zlaman CNPS9500 and 9700 can be installed to point in any direction.

as my nice koss headphones cracked :(

Like this:

so i got my receipt and got from warranty one of these as there weren't those that i used to have.

That "ugly protection cover" is the the leather case provided with the player, from B&O. That photo doesn't flatter it though, it looks nicer in person; not to mention the fact it has a built in piece on the back specifically designed to carry the headphones. I bet your mp3 player doesn't have that. And Madonna is just fine, thank you- it sounds just as good as the other format.

Far as the cost, they gave me a $50 holiday credit thing, and a B&O book with it, so it was good value for $400.

Darn, I knew I had to pay twice the price for my mp3 player so that I could fit the headphones on the back :p
Respect for the vinyl player, though, that's cool!

I was paid yesterday and didn't realise. By my logic, that means I don't need the money so I decided to upgrade my computer.
Gone from:

C2D E4300 > C2D E8500
8600GT > HD4870
Vista > XP (nothing to do with the performance of Vista).

Also got a new motherboard as my old one only had two memory slots and a new case as my old one was cramped. The rest of the stuff I just transplanted.

The last time I cecked, the air was going out from the rear, lemme check again to confrim...

If I am wrong, then thanks for pointing it out. :p

The air is coming out of the rear of your case, yes, but the hsf takes the air from the fan-side, the case fan and the hsf are fighting for the same air atm.

It should look like this:

^ Umm, not really. All you have to do is to remove your heatsink, rotate it 180 degrees and clip it back on.

If that's NOT what you're going to do, I'd like to know what's this "uber modding" you're planning :p

Yep, I have the same HSF and that's all he needs to do. However, the sucky part is that it requires him to take the motherboard completely out since that HSF has the plate thingy (can't remember what it's officially called) on the back of the motherboard, so it will be a bit of the pain, but it's not the end of the world.

Its called a bracket. And you don't always have to take the motherboard off. For example if you have a computer case with a motherboard tray, you can just remove the tray to gain access to the rear of the motherboard. And, I think in some amd sockets, there is no bracket to put on the back of your mobo, the hsf just clip on to the processor socket thing.:)

My fiancee gave this to me for Christmas and I'm loving it, especially the cool sensor power on/off :D

Oh, and I finally started using Vista and I think it runs great, no problems with programs or drivers so far...

Ahhh, a bracket: thanks :D

I have the same socket as him and it does require the bracket, so he'll probably have to gut it out, unless he has a snazzy case with a mobo tray.
