The "New Toys" Thread

i dont even know how you fit that much into one computer... unless it's just 5 tb drives...

Also this is my first post in ages, the old LFS people may remember me.

I do, but not from your posts, try the disturbingly ugly Avatar ;-)

I really wish I could fit one of those in. Sadly, a burner + my fan controller = no room for one. Between my long video card and my current 5 drives (1.4TB), I'm outta room in my case. :cry:

EDIT: I wonder if I remove my floppy drive (never use it anyway) if I could fit another 500GB HD in there...

What case do you have? You do know a Centurion 5 is only 54 dollars. :D

Yeah...and you could also put a 750 or 1TB. Go big, or go home.
$/GB

500GB is $90, 750GB is $120, 1TB is $200.

I'll probably get a 750GB.

On no...so a TB drive would only cost $20 more than 2x500GB. :lol: I don't know about you, but a 10% premium for double the storage in the same space doesn't seem like that high of a tax.

500GB = 18 cents/GB
750GB = 16 cents/GB
1TB = 20 cents/GB

So paying $80 more for 250GB isn't worth it (750GB vs. 1TB).

Or just get 2 500GB ones, $20 bucks cheaper.

Still though, $120 for 750GB or $180 for 2x500GB. That's $60 for 250GB (1/2 the cost of a 750GB). Better to buy a 750GB now and then buy another one later or a 1TB when the price comes down. ;)

Gonna get two 750Gb HDDs by the end of May. Hopefully the price will drop by another few dollars or so.

Then I will be sitting with :

500+500+750+750= 2.5Tb of pure storage space. Gonna chuck my current 160Gb (C drive) to my sister's machine and get a new Seagate drive with 32mb cache as my main OS drive. That way, all my drives will be the 7200.11 series with 32mb cache. 160mb of pure hdd cache, w00t!

And I'm also thinking of moving my dual monitor setup to another pc and go for a Toshiba 46" LCD-TV for $1400. 1920 x 1080 with 3 HDMI ports.

Gonna be awesome for HD movies and games. Dual 22" LCD setup will be then mainly used for internet browsing and other random stuff, and the 46" will be used purely for games and movies.
